Default Another coyote hunting question.

I was wondering if you can use say a boombox or tape/cd play to call in coyotes. Ive read where people take a walkman and add amplifier speaker....(or something like this). Is there a way i can get a cheaper way of calling. Also what are your fav. mouth blown calls. thanks all.

Me and G-Dawg went yote huntin last year before I got my caller. We got up in stands with our bows. We had a jackrabbit in distress tape (we don't even have jackrabbits here in Arkansas) and a Walkman. We didn't even have an amp speaker for the Walkman; we just put the tape in and turned it up as loud as we could, lowered it out of the stand on a string and let it play through for about 20 minutes nonstop. About 2 minutes after it stopped, two yotes came right up to it and sniffed it. I was like, "holy crap! it worked!" So a Walkman with a tape should work. It did for us.

Take a Walkman, hook up the Radio Shack Mini amp #277-1008. Then see if that has a bigg enough speaker if it don't go buy the JS mid-range speaker. For 20 bucks. You got a caller that cost you about 40 bucks. you will need other wires too.#4202420 ( i beleive is for the speaker. but you should need this if you are using the JS speaker.)
#4202434 ( this is to hook the mini amp to the walkman.) If you don't want the JS speaker you can get the PA speaker from RS # 4001440. Then you will need thepart number mentioned above. I beleive thats all you need. Good luck. for mouth calls, rabbit in distress is probly the most common, then you will need a cyote howl. Cronk calls make on for 55 bucks, but its suppose to be really good. You want a long range and close in range rabbit in distress call.

my first caller was a home made one.i used a portable tape player, not a walkman they didn't have those in those days.it was a bigger one that had a little more volume then a walkman.put a 4 inch indoor/outdoor radio shack speaker with 25 foot of wire.called in many fox with that set up,never called any coyote with it becouse there wasn't any coyotes in ny during the early 70's.my point is,any thing that plays clean crisp sound will work as a call box.and you don't realy need a box with super high volume.i am a firm believer that less is better.

I have a johnny Stewart and one I made out of a cassett player with a amp. The home made one is rechargable and the JS takes 15 batteries . They both do a good job .
