RE: Nicest Sounding Cartridge

Loudest and by far the most obnoxious gun Ive heard was a barrett m82a1 with cheap south african 647gr ammo(guess the guy couldnt afford to load for it after he sunk the 9 grand into it). It was a...

RE: 22 Cal To Shoot Deer

This seems to be a thread that has been discussed at length on these boards. Remember that 80% of the people on the board think that a deer has armor plating like a panzer tank and that anything...

RE: College

My advise would be to choose something that you think you can deal with, not what you would do for free. Think of it this way, every hunter would like to be a wildlife biologist, game warden, etc......

RE: what do you think a true hunter is?

A "true" hunter would be a person who hunts and forages for survival. Lions, Cheetah, Human ancestrial lineage and branchs prior to Human emergance, and humans prior to agriculture. Today there are...

RE: Hunting Pistol

I second the vote for the freedom. Comparing it and a ruger is like comparing a corvette to a geo. If you want a handgun with a 15 inch barrel (encore), why not just carry a rifle?

RE: Want to save coyote hide...what caliber?

The guns you mentioned shooting hard cast bullets will only leave a caliber sized hole in the coyote, if in doubt as to if your bullets are hard enough to not expand, barnes makes solids now for the...

RE: Recoil Question

The computation for a blackpowder gun is the same as for any other gun. The difference lies within the fact that 100 grains of blackpowder is measured by volume, not weight like smokeless powder. So...

RE: remington reduced recoil rounds

The 7-08 is just as good as either the 270 or the 30-06. A 308 would allow you a greater bullet selection even if you dont reload with the same recoil as the 7-08, and is comparable to both the 270...

RE: Cast Bullets for 458 Win Mag?

Great story about the bearstompin little lady:D

Evidently Midway doesnt sell the 540s anymore, the closest thing I can find is a saeco mold for a 540 that looks too long in the nose to feed in...

RE: Which .40 Cal Rifle?

According to the fellows at accurate reloading:
.416 400grain Max loads
Rigby=2600fps w/105gr H4350
Weth= 2660fps w/116gr Re19
Rem=2400fps w/80gr VVN 140

RE: semi auto choice for swamp hunting deer.

You will be best served shooting 20-30 yards with a short barreled shotgun or a revolver. Theres no need for a scoped rifle at that short of range, they will do more harm than good.

RE: Which .40 Cal Rifle?

If your going to go as high as 458 cal then the 458 lott is a nice one, and you can shoot 458 winnies in it. The 45-70 with 540gr garrett hammerheads makes for quite a powerful little package too....

What mold did you use to cast the 540 grain bullets for the 45/70?

RE: Velocity verses Energy. (the debate)

This debate could be solved just by using momentum instead of velocity or kinetic energy.

The 17 was compared to the 44 mag earlier. The 44 kills a hog quicker:
Mometum=mass*velocity

RE: best deer gun ?

A 243 surpassing a 30-06 at long range?

A 243 with proper bullet and loading versus a 30-06 with crappy low BC bullet yes. But head to head both with similarly matched loadings, not hardly.

RE: .223 over 4100 fps

Id suggest you get yourself a chronograph if you are serious about shooting. Your 223 is not moving a 40 at 4100. You mentioned there being no advantage of a swift when you can get the same...

RE: Anyone shoot 55gr bullets in .243?

Sorry I do not have any load data for the 243 win. What I can say is that the 55gr BT is an absolute beast on varmints out to 400 yards. The bullet has a really low BC so it loses velocity fast and I...

RE: revolver vs T/C Encore

No question here. If you have the money get a freedom model 83 454 or 475. Second best would be a ruger blackhawk 44 or 45.

Im not fond of the encore due to the size. With a 15 inch barrel, the...

RE: O.K. what do I want?

Marlin definatly, the feeding of the short pistol cartridges is superior. Btw the 2 cartridge choices Id go with the 44 mag. It can be loaded for screwin around or for serious killing. Have you...

RE: 30-06 or 7mm Mag

Of those two I would go with the 30-06. Better yet, get a 308. It will do as good of a job as either of the 2 you mentioned, and do it with less powder, recoil, and noise.

RE: Buying a new rifle...Question on barrel length

Minimal velocity loss... around 60 fps. Get the 243, it has better bullet selection than the 25-06 and will do the job just as well with less powder.

RE: 9mm luger for deer hunting???

You say your only hunting 50 yards max and that your other 2 guns are scoped. Why not just take the scope off of one of them and use it? You dont need a scope for 50 yards, and if you make the shot...

RE: Heavy Long Distance/Hunting Rifle

Why do you need "2000 ftlbs at 600 yrds"?

You say you want a factory gun but you also want it to be heavy, factory guns dont come heavy.

Since you want a factory gun you are limited to a...
