I'd go with a bigger caliber with all that's riding on your hunt. Sure a perfect shot placement would bring the elk down (along with proper bullet, distance, etc..) but will you be guaranteed perfect...

I go for 100% wool too. It breathes and keeps you warm even when wet. Filson has some great products although they can be expensive, but i think it's worth it.
