I thin ther is no problem if the can is tight but what I always do with meat is I salt it, then I make a vacuum package it and for months nothing comes out or in from the bag until you open it.

for a snake i would recomend you a .410 short shotgun or a pistol with ratshot becuase if the snake is already attacking you you have more chance to hit it with one of these.

For a 7 year old I would recommend a 28 gauge cause I tell you with a 20 gauge the kid will fly 6 feet. Or you could use a .22 but hell need to be a little more precise and the danger is a bit greater
