Poeple put way too much time into trying to hit the lands or be close to it. I know this, because this is the classic tale I hear "My gun shoot factory's great, but when I reload I havn't found a good shooting load, and I am putting the bullet .02" from the lands". Now, the factory ammo most of the time is .05 or even .1" in alot of cases, and in the case of my 300RUM's its .25" away. I tell them to take thier most decent load and load up some rounds going deeper, and deeper, and see what happens. All the time I get a call back saying, "wow, best groups I ever got when I loaded them deeper". Starting off, they were lucky to have "one caliber" into the brass, and the bullet looked like a missle. It was fragile also.
If I can't hit the rifling because of my mag (most of the time the case), I don't worry about it. Just start off with the longest you can, and back off from there. You might be amazed at how much more accurate you can be with a deeper seated bullet.

I for one have been shooting the TSX bullets for a little over a year now and have been more than pleased with their terminal performance. I first had some loaded for my 260 last year in 120 grain boat tail and have had absolutely no accuracy problems. I have been a huge Nosler Partition fan for years and I shot several hogs and a couple of deer with the TSX's and Ican say that on the big hogs that I have shot with them, I have yet to find a bullet that performs better. I shot completely through 2 hogs standing side by side and still saw the dirt fly where the bullet continued on it's way after passing through both hogs. Performance was no better or worse on broadside shots on deer than my NPs but ina marginal shotor larger game, they will almost guarantee not to fail.
I recently purchased someCor Bon DPX loads with a 53 grain TSX for my 22-250 for my young daughter to deer hunt with. This past weekend I shot 2 hogs, (1) 175# boar shot just below the eye and he dropped in his tracks and the bullet was a clean pass through. The other was a 250+# sow that I shot low in the neck and it exitedthrough the shoulder plate/leg area on the opposite side. This is with a 53 grain 22 caliber bullet at 140 yards. I do not know of any other bullet that can boast that kind of performance.
Needless to say, I'm extremely happy with the TSX. It is all I willload in my .223, 22-250, 260 & 450 Marlin. I can't wait to shoot a pig with a 300 grain TSX out of my 450 Marlin.

I am glad to report that by bumping up my load, the groups did finally tighten up. I think that 60gr RL22 was the best at right under 1" @ 100 yds. with 59.5 and 60.5 doing just a little worse (~1.5"). 60.5 was all that the case would hold without compressing the load.

I can't meet Barnes' recommendation for the distance off the lands and still fit the cartridges in my mags. Still trying to develop a load with 130TSX in my A-Bolt .270. Most bullets that I have tried have come in at around 15 rds. I have gone through an entire box of Barnes TSX and still don't have decent groups. This last batch that I have yet to shoot is loaded 4 pcs. at 59.0, 4 at 59.5, 4 at 60.0 and 4 at 60.5 grains of RL22. I tried 4831SC and couldn't get decent groups. Open to recommendations here.
