I am thinking of trying the Barnes Triple Shock in my 25-06. Has anyone tried them and do the tend to copper foul less than the original X bullets?

I have loaded some in my .223. I didn't notice that much copper fouling, but I haven't shot all that many, either. My barrel is also moly coated from shooting Hornady V-Max molys. They shot well, and they expand as advertised. They penetrated about 10" or so in a box of dirt at 125 yards. I'm thinking about trying some in my 25-06.

I have became a huge fan of these bullets lately. What is wierd is they foul less for me than scirrocos, or partitions. I couldn't believe it. And thats in a 300RUM. I am used to the old X that would take you an hour to clean out all the copper.

They foul no more, or even less, than conventional bullets in my rifles. They foul a whole lot less than the Scirocco, which is the worst copper fouling bullet I've ever used. I really like the Triple Shock.

I can't wait to try them now. I used to use the X bullets a lot but I got tired of trying to clean out the copper. How about the coated X bullets. Is the coating helpful in that regard?

Yes, very much. The coating made a world of difference. But you still got the same problem that some guns with good bores loved the X, and some older looser guns hated them.

I have yet to test out the Triple on game. Some are reporting bad expansion. But will find out more next year.

I load the triple shock in 243, 25-06 and 300 win and the preformance on game is like any other x bullet ,but the big difference I have noticed is the improved accuracy that I'm getting . I just load them with the same load I was using on X bullets and haven't run a chrono on them yet but hope to soon . Maybe someday Barnes will get it in gear and update thier manual .

I guess i've been lucky w/ the x bullets, I've never had a copper fouling problem. I have been moly coating my own for a few years though. I also get good accuracy w/ em, although listening to these guys maybe I could get some excellent results w/ the triple shocks. I dont see where the triple shocks would fail to expand, they are supposed to be the same except w/ expansion joints(welding term) cut in them. they should perform the same on the animal? I do uderstand why they would foul less, but lack of expansion?

I've been using the X-bullet since the late 1980s and they are great! Since I've swithched to the X-bullet I've never experienced bullet failure again. Barnes X-bullets generally produce deeper penetration and higher retained weight than any other brand of bullet.
The triple-X fouls LESS than any other bullet I've used and is exceptionally accurate. If you shoot a magnum cartridge and have had your bullets explode, disintegrate, or otherwise fail on impact, switch to the Barnes X or TSX bullet. If you shoot an older cartridge with modest velocity, shooting a lighter Barnes X-bullet increases your velocity a bit and get deeper penetration than with your old bullet.

A couple issues to get the highest performance from Barnes bullets:
First, your barrel has to be clean. Forget a few passes with Hoppe's #9.
I mean clean of all fouling for best accuracy. I currently use JB bore paste and clean up with Butch's Bore Shine. Takes just a couple minutes and you're done. There are a number of cooper solvents on the market as well. The condition of the bore is a major contributing factor to the amount of cooper fouling. JB bore paste polishes those bores and minimizes all fouling.
Second, overal cartridge length is important and the X-bullets need to be a min of .050" off the rifling for best accuracy.
Third, you can typically use a lower bullet weight than you normally use and obtain better performance than your old bullet.

And if you shop the mail order houses, particularly MidwayUSA and MidSouth, they have great prices on Barnes X, and Triple Shock X-bullets.

I HAVE A ENCORE 2506 CUSTOM 56GRAIN OF RL19. THEY SHOT VERY ACCURATE.1/4" TO 1/2" GROUPS. I SHOT ONE 194LB BUCK AND TWO SMALLER DEER THIS SEASON. ONE 250LB BOAR. AND ALL PASSED COMPLETELY THRU WITH ON THE GROUND OR VERY GOOD BLOOD TRAIL PERFORMANCE.
