Allen, Tough break! Hard to tell what happened. Had a similar situation Saturday morning. I hunted the back edge of a large standing corn field. Just after daylight got good, I saw three deer leave the woods on the opposite edge of the corner I was watching. Watched there progress through the corn by the moving stalks. First one out was a real nice ten point. The other two were 2.5 year old eights. They milled about in a grassy swale in front of me for the next half hour. Finally the ten made his way to me. At twenty yards I was turning my feet in the stand to prepare for a shot. He caught the movement and stood staring at me. He turned suddenly and started stiff legging it straight away. At twenty five yards he quartered and looked over his shoulder in my direction. I drew and shot in one motion. He ducked sidewaays and the arrow glanced off his shoulder and lodged in his brisket. He booked off through the corn. I waited about an hour and took the trail. Found the arrow while following his running tracks. Minimal blood on the arrow and none on the ground. Followed his trackes and search the field for the next two hours. Nothing! Sick feeling!!! Hard to get back in the saddle! Went Sat night. Saw alot of deer but I can't get my mind off the ten point!!!

Oh by the way, lemond, you get at them now!! The bigger bucks are out of velvet!! Saw 6 bucks Sat morning and 3 in the evening. All the bucks 2.5 years or older were solid bone. The youngsters still had velvet though.

Bob,
Man that really sucks. Maybe with the lack of blood on the arrow and the trail, you didnt hurt him too bad. Lets hope [:^]
Sounds like you have a good amount of quality Deer on your farm. Keep on um! Best of Luck!
Any day spent huntin, is better than any day spent workin,,

guys, if u dont mind me asking, what type of broadheads are you using?? i have been hunting, only, six years...archery. i have never lost an animal
i guess that is good luck.
i scouted 2day and walked for 4hrs...o my god, i am getting old
saw a on of tracks and sign. i saw persimmon seeds in droppings?? that is odd. i thought they hit them when they became sweet. right now, they will lock you jaws up. i ordered the double BULL blind after watching the video they sent...u have to see it. the video is free and u get over 30 hunts. the turkey hunts are sweet. i never knew that the toms would attack the tom that was shot and down. well let me tell u, bad move, because in one sequence they scored 3 toms because they wouldnt leave the one that was shot first alone
i think i might try turkey for the first time this season. where can i hunt them???

Lemond......125 grain 4 blade Muzzys....new and sharp.
Do the bucks prefer corn over soybean for the extra advantage of remaining hidden?
I hope to fill at least one of my buck tags before the guns start going off.
Come on November.

Duckmaster, The arrow was barely in the brisket so I will have to agree not much damage was done. I hate it though cause you just never know! Yeah there are alot of good bucks on that farm. We've managed it for about 6 years. It's really paying off! Cool thing though, the group of three bucks came off public land that morning!
lemond, I've been using a broadhead called a Wensel Woodsman. It's a good 3-blade head you have to sharpen yourself. I personally don't think the head matters near as much as good shot placement. If you hit them well, they're going down. I use as big a broadhead as possible for those not so good shots. I want as much blood on the ground as possible!! I had a great streak going 'til last year. Something like 21 deer for 23 shots (shot two twice). This year seems to be starting off about where last season left off!
Are you sure they are persimmon seeds? Sure it's deer crap not racoon? Could be choke cherry or poke berry seeds. They gobble them up this time of year!
Allen, I hunted an oak patch Friday and saw nothing. My friend was about 150 yards away and saw a bunch including three really good bucks. They were feeding on browse in a powerline right-of-way. I hunted the edge of a cornfield in the morning Saturday and saw 6 bucks and 5 does. Everyone was ripping the ears off the corn stalks. When I was trailing the buck I hit, the cornfiled looked incredible. Sign was everywhere!!! Hunted a hidden bean field Sat. afternoon and saw 30 plus deer but only three bucks. Beans versus corn....I think the only moral right now is they are where they are. Any good food source will do! Now when the acorns start dropping...that's a different story!!! Good luck every one! I'm thinking of hitting the woods one day mid-week!!

Tough breaks fellas. We all feel for you guys.
I hunted until about 10:30 Sat morning, saw 3 does a little after 10:00, by that time it was warming up and I didn't feel like fooling with them. Too hot for me in the afternoon, glassed some fields for next weeks MD opener. Sure hope these cool mornings are a sign of things to come.

My father and I headed out for an afternoon hunt today. The wind was really blowing when we arrived at 4pm but by 6pm it really died to nothing. My father had a decent sized doe pass just out of range on the stand he chose. I saw nothing. We hunted til 7:30pm. Checking the sign in board, no ones really been hunting the woods and so far no deer (if people have been honest). Corns still up. I'll give it a try next week. Going to start moving to ground set ups and get away from the stands. The way its going, cant hurt
Cant hunt this weekend. Let me know how you all make out!!!

duckmaster...that is the trend i have been seeing the past 4yrs. during archery there is not the hard pressure. i never see anyone when i am out there. i have bumped into another archer twice. that is it. i dont understand it. mayb they do not think the deer are there?? who knows.
