RE: DE Deer Season starts in a few hours
Allen, Tough break! Hard to tell what happened. Had a similar situation Saturday morning. I hunted the back edge of a large standing corn field. Just after daylight got good, I saw three deer leave the woods on the opposite edge of the corner I was watching. Watched there progress through the corn by the moving stalks. First one out was a real nice ten point. The other two were 2.5 year old eights. They milled about in a grassy swale in front of me for the next half hour. Finally the ten made his way to me. At twenty yards I was turning my feet in the stand to prepare for a shot. He caught the movement and stood staring at me. He turned suddenly and started stiff legging it straight away. At twenty five yards he quartered and looked over his shoulder in my direction. I drew and shot in one motion. He ducked sidewaays and the arrow glanced off his shoulder and lodged in his brisket. He booked off through the corn. I waited about an hour and took the trail. Found the arrow while following his running tracks. Minimal blood on the arrow and none on the ground. Followed his trackes and search the field for the next two hours. Nothing! Sick feeling!!! Hard to get back in the saddle! Went Sat night. Saw alot of deer but I can't get my mind off the ten point!!!
