The main reason it didn't catch on is that is was created to kiss butt and stroke Jim Zumbos ego. it turned out to be a good caliber, but it doesnt fill any need. the gap between the 243 and 7mm-08 is small and you already have several very goo chamberings 257 roberts, 250 savage, to name two plus loads of lesser known cartridges6.5x55ect...then you've also got the more powerful but same calibers 25-06,270,some weatherbys ect...their was just no need or hole for it.

Who knows what the bean counters at Rem. really do with their brains when they come to work! Of course maybe they're p o at Win. for getting the jump on that cartridge family. You know 243-308-358,but Rem. is still making the 7mm08! I've own a 243, a 7mm08 & a308, i didn't buy a 260. The main reason is i have a 1916 model 96 Swedish Mauser thats sporterized. Now that old gal can put a ragged one hole at a 100 yds. off the bench. The 6.5 caliber is the best SD of them all and there isn't any game in North America that it can't harvest![&:]
