Alright guys, it's time for honesty

HELLO!!!!

There are things you can do to the big boys to reduce recoil. I've said it before and I'll say it again, my 300 ultra mag is a pleasure to shoot. The only thing that hurts is the price of the shells!(I really need to get into reloading) A muzzle brake and and a limbsaver recoil pad is all you need! If you want more, put in a mercury recoil reducer. I am very confident of my shot with my 300REM!!!

If I have to add a bunch of bells and whistles to a rifle to shoot it well, I wouldn't even bother with it since most are much larger than needed for most NA game. When I shot those calbers on a regular basis I could shoot them well but never enjoyed it for a skinny second. I have good feeling in my shoulders and just for myself, it makesno sense to hurt them more than I need to. Youi ask for honest and thats MO. To each his own. I don't need to bang my head on a rock to prove that its hard

Anybody who thinks that it's a waste to spend the money to put a muzzle break on a gun you already own is crazy. It might hurt your feelings, but I'm not sure you should be hunting then. Think about this. If your gun kicks like a horse, you flinch. Maybe not conciously, but you do. If you are trying to humanly kill something, and you flinch, that shot may not hit where you want it to.
My Armalite .338 Lapua Mag came with a super muzzle break. In fact, it shoots like a .243. I can easily go to the range and send 3-4 BOXES of ammo down range without any abouse on my body. Just a good set of earplugs. It is definatly a Big Bore Rifle, and will shoot small ragged holes between 1/4 inch and 1/2 Inch depending on the load. Only bad thing is ammo is $$$$$$. last box I bought was 82.50. I reload for average of about 20.00
This is more than adequate for any game in North America with the proper load. Maybe big for squirrel, but with a light bullet, great for deer, and with heavier bullets, any bear you want.
If you have never shot one, find one and try it. It will really give you an example of how valuable a muzzle break is on your Big Catridges. It will show you that some of the really big bullets can be FUN to shoot, as oppossed to geting out there knowing, when I pull the trgger, this is gonna hurt.

Just another dumb statement from someone whom for whatever reason won't accept a magnum for what it really is. SUPERIOR!! It's superior in every single aspect! When it comes to big game magnums put 'em down harder and they always will.I'm ready now for my lesson in shot placement, so go ahead!

I agree with you , the Big Magnumsa are Superior. Some of them are just not fun to shoot. hard to get good shooting something that you don't enjoy shooting. You can't get real good, to make that perfect shot placement if you don't practice, and are comfortable whith the rifle. I got a chance a few years back to shoot something huge. I am told it was adequate for Elephant if that is your thing. Ammo, about $5 each time you shoot it. That this about knocked me over backward from a standing position. Great, I hit what I as aiming at....THAT TIME. But I can guaruntee, I would be flinching if I had to shoot it again. That, makes good shot placement hard. Not impossible. TRY a muzzle break, make it comfortable, and you will get better than you are now. I garuntee, that I can put bullet where I want with my .338 Lapua Magbacause of the break on it. It allows me to get good shooting it, without the flinch.
I GUESS THIS IS JUST ANOTHER BELL OR WHISTLE THOUGH.

Used too butshoulder surgeries hasreduced me tolight weight status. My top tolerance level off the bench without special enhancements such as muzzlebrakes, etc isin the.338wm recoil class( atthat it can be a bit much in a t shirt when doing load development)[

NO, I rally have to disagree with the Manhood statment. I think that makes us a Little Smarter. See, not all of us can afford several rifles, for all the differnt things out there. So you see, in my case, my hunting Rifle is also my tactical Rifle. I chose something that I can hunt ANYTHING, ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA. I happened to chose a big gun that will allow me to do this. The company does not ship this rifle without a brake. Now, with a brake, i can practice with this gun all day, and be more proficient with it that you will be with something smaller, and because I am more proficient with it I can more reliably place my shot where I want it, killing my game more easily. I don't have to worry that oops, i missed a bit because I flinched with a smaller round, and wounded my game. No, I shoot a bigger round, that recoils less, delivers more lbs of energy even at long range then alot of guns deliver at really short range, and put it exactly where I want it. Do you have the confidence to hunt anything anywhere in North America with just one gun? I know I do.
If this was a manhood issue, there are bigger guns out there, that are a whole lot less practical. But that's another story.
And to choose something smaller, just because it has less recoil and doesn't need a brake, that sounds like a Manhood issue. A real mancan admit it when using thataccessory makes it easier to be more proficient, and then does it. So what is smarter, using something that might get the job done without the brake, or something that WILL get the job done with the brake.
Now that you have got me going....
So according to you, nobody should use anything except just the rifle. No additional things to make you better. So, you are saying that when you go to the range, you shoot just iron sites, that you don't use a bench there, you don't shoot from a prone position, maybe supported by a sand bag or backpack. You just walk out there, stand there, out your gun to your shoulder and shoot. I say BS. By your way of thinking, taking even something as easy shooting as say a .270 or .223, and supporting it say on the side of a tree, or over a branch is unmanly. making sure that there is the best possibility of placing that hopefully one humane killing shot where it has to go, is unmanly, then you my friend, need to hang up your REAL MAN TOYS, turn in your hunting license, and go back to chsing squirrels with a BB Gun. You cannot consistantly shoot every peice of game just where you want, from a standing unsupported position. and If you do, ...see above comments. Even you need some of the "extras and Bells and Whistles" to shoot well.

OH, in case you didn't see earlier in the thread. Rifle of Choice:
Armalite .338 Lapua Magnum
this is the King of the .338 bullets. It will deliver range if needed, and a heck of alot of energy at that range.
