Anybody who thinks that it's a waste to spend the money to put a muzzle break on a gun you already own is crazy. It might hurt your feelings, but I'm not sure you should be hunting then. Think about this. If your gun kicks like a horse, you flinch. Maybe not conciously, but you do. If you are trying to humanly kill something, and you flinch, that shot may not hit where you want it to.
My Armalite .338 Lapua Mag came with a super muzzle break. In fact, it shoots like a .243. I can easily go to the range and send 3-4 BOXES of ammo down range without any abouse on my body. Just a good set of earplugs. It is definatly a Big Bore Rifle, and will shoot small ragged holes between 1/4 inch and 1/2 Inch depending on the load. Only bad thing is ammo is $$$$$$. last box I bought was 82.50. I reload for average of about 20.00
This is more than adequate for any game in North America with the proper load. Maybe big for squirrel, but with a light bullet, great for deer, and with heavier bullets, any bear you want.
If you have never shot one, find one and try it. It will really give you an example of how valuable a muzzle break is on your Big Catridges. It will show you that some of the really big bullets can be FUN to shoot, as oppossed to geting out there knowing, when I pull the trgger, this is gonna hurt.
