one of the differances in price is the name.
kinda like the john deer tractor. is lawn tractors realy offer no avantage "and it does off some disavantags" but the price is higher.
savage has the name of a good but cheep gun. rem-win has the name of being more expincive. "espicaly when a used win-rem will braing more used than some savages new.

All you need is a Savage barrel wrench and a set of Go, No-Go gauges for the cartridge.

And a set of arms like Goldberg or the Rock.Factory Savage barrels are a bear to break loose. They do make good switch barrel rifles. Sharp Shooters Supply sells everything one needs to make a Savage into a real shooter.

Here's a good savage story. My Dad handed his savage 110 30-06 down to me that he purchased in the mid 70's. The rifle has been used to take many animals. About a year or so ago I got a bell and carlson synthetic stock for it, steel bedded it and put a nikon 3-9 on it to replace the old(really old) weaver. My Dad had had the trigger worked on, and it's pretty nice, with on of those "fat" attached triggers and pulls nicely. Well, after countless boxes of ammo through it over the years, the thing still shoots sub moa consistently. Needless to say, I love that rifle and I'm proud to own it.

I have owned 2 savage rifles and will never own another. I guess I just got two bad ones but that was enough to turn me away from them. One was chambered for 270 win and the other 7mm rem mag. Neither would hit the broad side of a barn! Plus the sloppy bolt and nasty safety left much to be desired.

I have a Savage Model 99, 243 Win.lever action with the brass rotary counter mag. I bought it new in 1962 and put a Bushnell Scopechief IV 4X on it. Post or Cross hairs. We can drive nails. I have gave it to my son now but for what we hunt and around here, there couldn.t be a better rifle. We,ve never done anything to it except clean and oil it.
At the gun club some of the members are telling him that he needs a REM 30-06 and I say why, this Savage has done the job for 30 yrs. and all we hunt is whitetails.
