Old Remington semi-auto shotgun?????????
I need some info on a old shotgun. It has the following on the side of the gun :
Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Co.
Browning Pats. Oct 9,1900 Dec 17,1901 Sept 30, 1902 June 16, 1903
Serial # 174023
It is a 12ga. with a full choke and a vent ribbed barrel.
It looks just like a browning humpback.
I have the following Questions
Is it safe to shoot 2 3/4" shells and could i shoot steel shot?
Could anyone help me with the model number and what is the value( the gun is well worn with little blueing left).
Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!
Thanks!!

Sounds like a Model 11. It should be safe to shoot, unless there's some budge or split in the barrel. Since the gun sounds like it has little collector value left, it wouldn't bother me to shoot steel shot in it. As far as value, I'd have to take a look at the gun.

I agree it does sound like a Model 11 Remington. There were a couple different models. Model 11,Model 11A and Model 11R. The 11R was a riot gun.The model 11A was a standard grade . They were made from 1905-49. The model 11 was a Special Tournament,Expert and Premiier grade guns.If it was my shotgun before firing it,I would have it throughly checked by a competent gunsmith. The few dollars spent could save you allot of pain if something is wrong with it.As old as it is there could be a undetected small crack in the receiver or barrel. That's just my opinion.. Ruger Redhawk
