I was in an automobile accident and have a paralyzed right arm. I am able to do most things I could do before w/ a little creativity.

What gets me is somehow the crossbow is a weapon that only gimps and wussboys use. Why the stigma? We started "cheating" at this whole bowhunting game with the invention of the compound bow. I'd rather be "lazy" and make a clean, humane harvest with my scoped xbow than stick one in the ham or guts with a zwickey tipped cedar shaft from an underweight longbow.

It seems that way because you dont open your eyes. It's only gimps and "wussyboys" because that's all they can do. They cant pull back a compound or longbow so they have to use a crossbow. Some just choose to use a crossbow. imagine that. I'm not a "wussyboy" i use a crossbow because it's fun and i still need to learn how to shoot compound. So, what catagory do you fall under? Wimps? or Wussyboys? it's great that you can come in and call people names when you use a crossbow yourself. I'm pretty sure that Don isnt a wimp and not a wussyboy. I'm pretty sure alot of us here arent.

Thomas, I don't think that is how doe girl feels, I think what she is trying to say is that's what the conclusion is that sproulman is saying. Thats why she said "why the stigma" Did you read all of old sproulmans post? He made a few that is rubbing some people wrong and I think doe girl is responding to him. Or there could be the chance that since your post is the first I have read this morning that I am reading it wrong.

I'm disabled and I use a crossbow. I would still use one if I was fit as a fiddle because they are legal in Arkansas. They are only illegal in 3 states, and are legal pretty much in 11 states for archery seasons, and to one degree or another in 46 states total, whether handi-capped only, rifle only yada yada yada, constantly changing field. I don't much care for cheats of any kind, but maybe if these xbow users weren't forced to jump through hoops by out of date laws it wouldn't be so prevalent. here's an example. I have friends w/ 380 acres in Lousiana, strictly timber harvesting every 20 years or so and deer hunting, 23 stands and gawd knows how many food plots. In order for me to hunt there legally w/ xbow, I have to get a La. Dr. to sign me off, and take my word for it, it would fly through. However, I'm 4 hrs from La. I go to the VA for medical care, same as vets in La. I can go there sans permit and hunt hogs because they aren't considered a game animal. Same rules for handi-capped in most states, gotta be their states Dr. to sign you off. I couldn't get a permit in Illinois, so not ever Dr is rubber stamping the applications and I wasn't gonna Dr shop to get one, as I knew I was moving here. I was told by an industry rep that there are around 500,000 xbow hunters in North America, which I think includes us and Canada. How many of them do you suppose have handi-cap permits??
the reason we did not recommend crossbow for everyone here in pa. is because we wanted something to allow the DISABLED or elderly a way to stay hunting and get a chance to harvest a deer..

if everyone had crossbow, we felt do to lack of deer, that DISABLED chances would be reduced in archery season..

QUESTION, did you see a lot of hunters give up using their recurves/compound bows when crossbow became legal??

Show us the data that supports the idea that there will be less chances sproulman or don't say anything. Doing otherwise is just spreading gossip and showing poor sportsmanship or jealousy.

Sproulman: It was a non-issue here in Arkansas long before I moved here in 2002. Our current season is from Oct. 1st to Feb. 28th. Our limits are 4 deer, two can be bucks. There is no xbow bashing in Ar. that I've seen, no one cares as they have had 30 yrs to see there is no difference. I'm not an authority by any means, but from what I've read, Ohio has had them as long if not longer than Ar. and their seasons have gotten longer and bag limits higher like ours.I believe Oh now has slightly more xbowers than conventional bow hunters. There doesn't seem to be any info if those xbowers in Oh are gun hunters enjoying archery season or verticle converts to the xbow, probably cause it doesn't really matter to anyone. The DNR's, in their efforts to manage the herds will increase gun seasons if they need the herds reduced as archery seasons take alot less deer everywhere. Other states that have recently allowed/expanded xbow use are reporting pretty much the same thing, lot's of ungrounded fears didn't happen. Gun hunter converts to archery of any form have their work cut out for them, as it's a whole new ball game getting a deer in range of an arrow launched from any platform. Once a hunter develops those skills, if indeed ever, it really is a moot point how they get the arrow 20 -30 yds into the deer. Most of the crap you read about 75 yd xbow shots on deer and the guy that can hit a turkey at 140 yds are just another form of bashing. Fwiw: the mid range trajectory on an Excal Emax aimed at a 100 yd target is 25 feet.

Squirrel: Perhaps I didn't state my thoughts more clearly. I reread my previous post and the only conclusion I can come up is that you read the first sentence and stopped there. I suggest you reread my post and try again.
