Default RE: Why do you use a crossbow?

Sproulman: It was a non-issue here in Arkansas long before I moved here in 2002. Our current season is from Oct. 1st to Feb. 28th. Our limits are 4 deer, two can be bucks. There is no xbow bashing in Ar. that I've seen, no one cares as they have had 30 yrs to see there is no difference. I'm not an authority by any means, but from what I've read, Ohio has had them as long if not longer than Ar. and their seasons have gotten longer and bag limits higher like ours.I believe Oh now has slightly more xbowers than conventional bow hunters. There doesn't seem to be any info if those xbowers in Oh are gun hunters enjoying archery season or verticle converts to the xbow, probably cause it doesn't really matter to anyone. The DNR's, in their efforts to manage the herds will increase gun seasons if they need the herds reduced as archery seasons take alot less deer everywhere. Other states that have recently allowed/expanded xbow use are reporting pretty much the same thing, lot's of ungrounded fears didn't happen. Gun hunter converts to archery of any form have their work cut out for them, as it's a whole new ball game getting a deer in range of an arrow launched from any platform. Once a hunter develops those skills, if indeed ever, it really is a moot point how they get the arrow 20 -30 yds into the deer. Most of the crap you read about 75 yd xbow shots on deer and the guy that can hit a turkey at 140 yds are just another form of bashing. Fwiw: the mid range trajectory on an Excal Emax aimed at a 100 yd target is 25 feet.
