Default RATE MY BOWS and suggestions on blades?

I've just started bow hunting whitetail this year and have many questions. Can't think of them all at once so I've gotta ask'em as they arise. Here's a couple:

1) I'm hunting passed down/used, probably inferior bows and would like an opinion on the two I'm currently using. I have a Golden Eagle and a Pearson. They are both run of the mill compounds and are not speed bows. I don't know models but generally, which of these two are more renowned?

2) I'm also concerned about my bow not having enough kick to it. By that I mean that I don't think the arrow will penetrate well enough at 20+ yards. The 2 bows I have are both set at what is told to me to be 55 lb draws. I'm using carbon fiber arrows with tripple blade 1 1/2 inch cutting diameter heads. My main concern is that if the arrow doesn't hit its intended mark and hits the shoulder blade instead, will it penetrate through that bone to hit the vitals? 55 lbs is what I'm comfortable at but will upping the draw weight to 60 make that much of a difference?

3) (related to #2) I considered that dual blades might penetrate deeper because there is the absence of the drag of the 3rd blade. Do I presume correctly? Also, a double blade will have less killing power than a tripple correct? If this helps any, the Golden Eagle was trapped at 220 fps by the previous owner and just by comparing that to the Pearson, it's probably a bit slower.

Both the Golden Eagle and the Pearson are decent bow's considering thier age ,but a 2 blade will probably give you more penetration and is definetly not inferior to the 3 blade ,so I would go with the 2 blade for your setup. As for if you don't hit your mark and hit the shoulder blade it could be the very same result even with a newer bow ,although most newer bow's do shoot substantially faster but I don't think in most case's that it would make a whole lot of difference hitting this area .But there is no reason that you couldn't harvest a deer with these bow's ,I just wouldn't take any long shot's with them. The only thing about these bow's is that maybe the limb's could be a little soft and string's could be wore .But if you took it to a bow shop you just might be able to get some extra KE out of them with new string's and some minor tweeking .

Holy cow man! Thats alot of questions!

I'd shoot the pearson myself, because at one time I was pretty familiar with their product.
Upping poundage, probally not that important. You can according to most states hunt effectivly with only 40 - 45 lbs. However, hitting a deer square in the shoulder will greatly reduce the effectiveness of your arrow at any speed.
As far as blades, everyone has their own opinion on them. I shoot three blade G2 Montec. Before I shot Rocky Mountain, and Thunderheads. I am extremely happy with the G2s, they are a fixed three blade that fly accuratly and penetrate well. My friend and long time hunting partner shoots two blade and has for sometime now. While I agree the accuracy is awesome, the missing third blade could be the cause of at least one monster bucks escape from us..and that is enough to keep me with three blades.

My thoughts,

I loved Golden Eagle bows for many years now. Now that they are owned by Bear Archery, they are ugly and I'm not 100% on the quality. That is my opinion, others may still like them. I just ordered a Parker for next year.

That said, My Golden Eagle that I will use for the final time on Saturday has killed 46 deer since I purchased it new in 1993. Eleven years old and this year, I killed three deer and it was every bit as effective as back in "93."

Specs: 30 1/4" 2315 arrows, 125 gr. Rocky Mtn Ultra Heads, set at 72# (limbs maxed out). Chrono last August at 209 fps.

IMO - It is all about where you put the arrow. I have shot through the shoulder of full grown deer with this bow. Twice. The shots did kill the animal quickly. I think that had more to do with the KE of my arrows than the bow. I like heavy arrows just for this reason. My only drawback, deer can duck 209 fps! Just not often.

2 blades 3 blades 4 blades, guys love them all. I have the most perfect set up with 3 blades so I never switched to anything else. My son has used Muzzy 3 blade 100 gr. and they put some nasty holes in his deer.
After years of Rky Mtn, I'm switching with the new bow for 2005.

Good luck with which ever setup you decide to use.

Excellent replies! Thanks fellas.

This is the first forum I've begun frequenting but it appears to be a premier site. Twice now, I've inquired and have received quality answers. I do believe I've come to the right place.
