If possible I would check and make sure, but if he isn't going to be around for awhile I would take advantage of the "your welcome anytime" and hunt it. Good luck.

I have a similar situation - I have verbal permission to hunt a stretch of woods "anytime". I haven't talked to the land owner since last season. I'm hunting it this season based on his "hunt it anytime" invitation. No one lives on this property though, so I'm not intruding on anyone's lifestyle by being there. I guess you will have to ask yourself that question. As far as "welcome anytime", I take that literally as an open invitation to hunt the land. I'd say go for it if you have exhausted every effort in trying to contact the landowner. Another thing, are there others that have permission to hunt this property? If so, it may be wise to contact these people.

If he said you are welcome anytime, then go for it. I would try to get a hold of him anyway though to make sure that no one else is out there too. He may have given permission for someone else to hunt also. Non hunters don't usually understand what deer hunting is always about.

I would also go with the go ahead and hunt anytime thing only if you can't get ahold of him. Out of common courtesy and respect to him..I'd try and get in contact with him. Like someone said, one weekend of going out without him knowing you were going could ruin your chances of hunting it forever just because he didn't know about it. We all know hunting land is at a premium.

I ALWAYS get the permission again before the season starts -- even from friends who have told me I'm always welcome there.

I own 100 acres in Oklahoma, and there are a very few people that I will allow on there "Anytime", but I did tell them that they are welcome anytime, and that is what I mean. If this guy said you are welcome to hunt anytime, I would take him at his word, but talk to him as soon as he got back if he can't be reached before he returns.
