Everytime ive been hunting this year the only thing i see are does and 1 small buck. I see deer everytime i go hunting its just does. The past two years i have also seen 1 monster buck about 1 time a season. Everytime he is with turkeys. Every year me and my brother shoot small bucks with small anlters and the antlers all look aout the same. I was wondering if this big buck has been running off the medium sized bucks off. What do i need to do to get 8 and above point bucks. Has anybody ever have alot of does and few small bucks and managed were they have many quality bucks. Do i need to shoot alot of does because the doe to buck ratio is about 8/1 or even more. If i harvest some does will it bring bucks to my land this year or next year.

Managing a deer herd is much more than "just letting the small bucks go". Here are some rules of thumb, not in any particular order.
1. Get the does in check. I like 3to1.
2. Only harvest mature bucks, regardless of antler size(for our camp, we classify 3 1/2 as mature)
3. The harvest of older cull bucks is a must and VERY important for the future buck herd.
4. Provide plenty of food and cover, year-round.
5. HAVE FUN

I'm putting my herd in check-1st Doe I have taken in nearly 20 years-I have 2 bonus antlerless tags this year & this is the 1st one down. I have had several fork horn,6s & 1 small 8 pass within 15 yds. of my stand. Couple biggies running this area.
25 yard double lung with a Rocky Mountain 3 Blade Ironhead put her down-watched her drop 25 yards from the hit.
