question for all the technical people
I shoot a fred bear vapor 300 at between 55-60lbs and I shoot carbon express arrows. I also shoot 100 grain tips. The bow has 302 fps at 70lbs. I was wondering if that will be enough kinetic energy to get the heads t open and have sufficent penetration. Also I was wondering about nap spitfire 100 grain heads. Thanks for your input.

RE: question for all the technical people
hunter101,
Though you did provide us with some information we need more to help answer your question. Here is what we need.
- Your exact draw weight
- Your draw length
- Your arrow weight (which can be determined at www.bowjackson.com)
These we can use to determine your bow speed and subsequent Kinetic Energy level.
If you are generating at least 55 ft. lbs of KE then most folks would give the nod in terms of using the splitfires for deer sized game.
Hope this helps some.

yes at least 55lbs of KE if not more for the spitfires. The Golden Key Demon or Rocket Steelhead might be a better choice since they have a smaller cutting diameter and would require a little less KE to get through.

KE is one thing but even a 650 grain arrow at 325 fps will not penetrate if it hits a deer nock end first. This is a graphic exageration but you get the point. Tune your bow and unless you are shooting a very light arrow you will be ok.

RE: question for all the technical people
With 152 ft lbs of KE I will take you up on that bet. I bet the nock end of the arrow will penetrate a deer with that much KE. It won't be pretty but I think it will penetrate. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
I agree with your point though. An arrow traveling "sideways" won't penetrate worth a darn regardless of how much KE is involved.
