I hear ya BobCo...Nothing worse than an old nosey doe.
I like to be at 14+ feet. I've killed a few deer at 10', but cover is necessary. I used to go up to 25' when I used a compound. Now I'm using a recurve and like to stay lower.
I have a friend that killed a 13 pt this year in Ohio. He shoots a longbow that's 64" long. He could almost lean his bow against his stand. It was less than 7' off the ground. He shot the buck at 12 yards. It's not the first time he's killed a deer from that tree at that height. Goes to show you that cover and scent are pretty darn important.

I pick my trees according to cover. If theres ample leaves/limbs/background, I'm fine at 15'. If theres a better spot at 25', I'm right there baby. I killed my best deer at 12', stuck on a side of a HUGE sycamore tree, no cover at all - I stood out like a sore thumb, but there was literally no where else to put a stand. It worked
