This past year was my first so i didn't like going that high but i'm getting used to it now so i take it about 17feet maybe because the deer look up here because they are smart very smart

20 ft I find is the max I will go with a bow due to shot angle and the canopy, for gun the higher the better as long as the canopy does not interfere. The canopy is the most important consideration for bow.

My hunting partner and I have always hung our stands much lower than those posted above. I like the flater shooting afforded by a 10-12 foot high stand. You do have to be carefull about movement but I don't think I can get high enough to avoid that and still maintain optimum shooting angle. I have taken sereral deer at eye level. I just prefer shooting at the side of a deer as opposed to down on the top of the back. Stand height like alot of bow hunting is a matter of personal preference.

I hang anywhere from 12 to 20. Yes, deer look up! More than once we have played, who moves first. Movement and scent control and wind are the biggest factors in my opinion. I hunt in a moderate hunted area. Deer check any new stand hung from my experience. They tend to notice things humans don't. Remember, they live there we don't.

get up above the lower level of the canopy, the bottom trees with a decent amount of leaves and start there......thats the simplest. Went way up high in a aspen tree once...heck even a slight breeze was spooky bad...dunno if I would have even thought about shooting for fear of falling out of the treestand and that was with a saftey belt!!!

For me it depends on the situation. I`ll go up 15' if that is where I need to be because of cover. I prefer to get up much higher if it is possible. I prefer 25-30' when possible. Even at 30', if a deer is 10 yards away from your tree, that is only a 45 degree angle. Not that bad, you still have a big target area to catch both lungs.

I usually setup no more than 15 feet.
I have one stand in a crook of a tree that is only about 3 or 4 feet off the ground. Great cover due to large tree trunks and some brush. Also it's a good funnel area. No need to be any higher.
The situation and personal comfort should dictate the stand height.

It mostly depends on the cover that I get. If I'm in the big hardwoods without much cover I'll go higher, not more than about 20 feet though. In thicker, more cover situations, such as a pine, hardwood cover, I'll stay a little lower, maybe 15 feet. Never less than about 15 feet though. And personally, I don't like going higher than 20 feet. And yes, deer have seen me at 20 feet. Especially those damn leading does!!!
