Does it bother anyone that a deer will not hesitate run away at the first sign of a hunter who may be very quiet, covered in camo, and relativly small, but will not hesitate to step in front of a 80,000 lb metal semi truck covered in lights? LOL. I always wondered why you could drive past them in a noisy car going 70 mph and they will stand there and look at you ( day or night, so I know its not the headlights ) but if you are in the woods being as quiet as can be, they are gone at the first sound. What is everyone elses feelings on this?

I know what you mean there bowmasterjoe80! On my way to work this morn, There were 3 or 4 deer that were hit lastnight on the parkway! The weird thing though, is that every one ended up in the middle of the passing lane looking like a giant package of ground meat. (I wonder if the same person hit every one! [
]). They must have really been movin lastnight in the full moon.

Hunting in suburbia you see a lot of strange things with deer. I' ve been perched up in a tree with good background cover, cover in front, the wind right and have a deer suddenly become unglued and do an about face and take off. I' ve also sat in a tree and watched the same deer in the same woods bed 15 yards from someones lawn and watch the guy rake leaves, kids playing, dogs in the yard.. all kinds of distractions.... and the deer just lays there and watches it all. The next minute I' ve watched a friend climb down from a tree 150 yards away and the deer bolts in the other direction like he was on fire. Go figure. My best suburbia deer story is the 6 point that lay outside our ground level sun room(glass all around,...floor to ceiling) while I watched the world series. I got up and went in the kitchen to get a coke. When I came back onto the sunporch I could see something on the lawn with the little light shining through the windows from a small table lamp. I flipped on the out door floods and there is a 6 point just laying there chewing his cud at 10PM not more than 15 feet from me. I turned the light off, called my wife, turned the floods back on and he' s still there. He was still there 30 minutes later. When the game ended I turned on the light and he' d gotten up and moved to my bird feeder for some seeds.

It does make you wonder.... Maybe deer can' t judge the speed that autos are moving and figure they can beat it across the road? I did that once and ended up with a few broken bones!
We have a buttonbuck that beds over the hill from our house. He watches us as we do yardwork or whatever. The only time he took off was when I forgot and tossed some old tomatoes over the hill. This same deer whom we have given the name " Buttons" is seen all over the woods. I have practiced stalking him several times and could have taken him a couple of times. One day I am coming down off the hill and I could see him bedded under an apple tree. He watched me the whole way and at one point he was only 10 yards away. We have an agreement - as long as he doesn' t have enough points we won' t shoot him!
