I have not hunted persimmons in the past, but this year I have a new hunting area that is loaded with them. I have small trees and large ones (from 8-10 ft tall on up to 70 feet) that are covered with fruit. Will whitetails eat them green, knocked down by wind and storms? Do they prefer them right when they turn orange and fall? Or do they like for them to lay on the ground awhile? Any help would be appreciated!!

The deer usually dont like the persimmons that are unripe. Taste one for yourself.
It will turn your face inside out. Deer love ripe persimmons. I hunt over persimmon trees alot during the early season. Another little note. Only female persimmon trees bear fruit. If you find a persimmon tree and arnt sure if it will bear fruit in the future, check below the tree for old fruit calyxes. (Four point star shaped cluster attached to the base of the fruit). The presence or absence of these will let you know if the tree is a male or female.

Once the persimmons turn ripe deer will tear them up, they will eat every one off the tree they can reach and all of them on the ground, sounds like you have a really sweet spot there.

I have killed multiple deer off a persimmon tree in a single evening. I had deer going to it from 5pm ' till dark. Shot the largest buck and the largest doe.
