What primer should be used with a Rem 700 ML with the Compressed Sticks. Had some partial burns with musket caps. I do not want to shoot 209's my gun is more accurate with the #11 or Musket cap.
ANY IDEAS???

I use 209's with my Omega and they work fine, although I think I am getting more out of the FFFG loose powder per grain... Are the sticks FFG, I can't remember, I was shooting a buddies... Have you tried the loose powder, maybe that will help.
I am surprised that a 209 would alter the accuracy. It is only the primer, it shouldn't really affect it.
Don't you just love AP, it is so clean!!! I haven't had any problems with mine in humid conditions either... Just love the stuff!

With my Rem 700 ML I can shoot .5 inch groups with FF 777 or FFF 777 with musket cap. With the 209 primer the groups grow to 1.5".
I have shot the loose clean shot and love it. Clean up is a snap.
My group moves up 4.5 inches when I use the musket cap.
I want to use the sticks for hunting ease of use.
Thanks

Here is a couple of my observations. The sticks vary a lot in weight from stick to stick. The variation is a lot more than Hodgen pellets. I don't know how AP expects consistent results with such a wide variation. Personally I would not try for groups with the sticks. I think mine will just get used up for shooting at cans. The loose powder shows promise however. I am also considering the new Black Mag3 powder which is supposed to be completely non-corrosive and requires no swab between shots ever! Relative to the 209 vs. other primers; there is a possibility that the power of the 209 is sufficient to move the charge and bullet up the rifle before complete combustion takes place. If that is true it certainly could affect accuracy. A 209 will shoot the bullet out of a barrel without powder. My Omega has been converted to the .25ACP using rifle primers and I think it is a good thing so far. Reduces crud ring with 777 by about 80%. Check the Black Mag3 thread on Graybeard sitel

I'll second what MLKeith says. The old CleanShot pellets had a horrible reputation for poor ignition and partial burns and I saw that myself when using them in my cap & ball revolver.............3 of six balls wouldn't hit a 3' X 3' target at 15 yards. So I doubt the new version "sticks" will fair a whole lot better.
I did use the loose Clean Shot for 2 years and got good results with it, but it's tendency to suck moisture out of the air finally removed it from my hunting box..................replaced by 777.
When using 209s, I do understand that many have had problems with the primers pushing the charge prior to full ignition, so finding and using the "coolest" brand of 209s would definitely be in your favor, especially if using 777.

As for BlackMag3 vs. AP...
I want to try it, but it is like 10 dollars more a pound!!!
AP claims that you don't need to swab between shots, the commercial has them shooting 1,000 shots without cleaning... I dont' get accurate enough results without swabing, I run a dry patch through and my results are great. A lot cleaner than 777!

I once tested CleanShot on the no swabbing between shots thing...............shot 20 to 25 shots without a cleaning patch and it worked just fine - no hard loading and no appreciable loss of accuracy either. It involved a "little" more clean-up afterwards, but not that much more.
