First load in my KRB??
#1
I am wanting to get this KRB7 rolling some lead, but want some advice before I buy a bunch of stuff that I don't need. I have the stuff from my Optima Pro:
Power Belt 265 (I think)
Pyrodex Pellets 50grns
Winchester ML 209 primers
I have been reading A LOT about bullets and powder....and now I am at that point were I was when I started re-loading my own bullets! CONFUSED!!There are sooooooo many choices. Were should I start? I shot 2 pellets with the PB's out of my Optima Pro and was dead on at 50. I have some Knight rings and bases on the way as well as a new Nikon Omega scope! I will be hunting with this during modern firearm season, so I want to get at least 100 yards.
What do you shoot out of your KRB? or do you find a certain combo works out well out of several guns?

I don't own a Knight KRB7 but wish I did. Like any Knight ... two pellets and a 250-300 grain Knight RED Hot sabot combination should produce good results. Knight RED Hots are Barnes Expanders.
My Knights also shoot Shockwaves very well. You might want to try some of them. Depending on what kind of bullets you cast, even they might work.
My Knights also shoot Saber Tooth conicals well, and Powerbelts pretty good.
All you can do is try some of them, but a bullet 250-300 grain should produce good results. All you can do is try some of them. Good luck with your new rifle.

no if you just want a good bulllet and don't like "messing around", get either a Nosler Partition 300g HG, Speer Gold Dot 300g,Barnes TMZ, MZ or TSX 45/70 bullet or a Shockwave 300g. Any of those would be great. Do a google search for Knight KRB load. You need to deceide if your going to shoot your MLer a lot or just during ML season, if your gonna shoot a lot, then go with the 300g Speer Gold Dot, if you gonna shoot just during hunting season, then I recommend a BarnesMZ, and if your goinna take up to two hundred yard shot a Barnes TMZ.
Best Wishes on your choice,

I do not shoot the KRB either but I do a shirt tale relative. I have a Knight Extreme with the fluted MHC barrel. My Knight really likes powder... I shoot 120 grains of T7-2f and have found that load works best with the bullets I choose to shoot.
For a less expensive bullet I really do prefer Speer Gold Dots. I shoot both the .452/250 grain and the .452/300 grain Gold Dot. They are really accurate for me.
I have purchased a box of .429/270 grain Gold Dots to do some shooting with. This may be the best "deer" class bullet of the bunch but I personaly have not tested it yet. The soft lead nose and the fact that Gold Dots are bonded bullets really enhance their performance in an animal whether you hit bone or not.
I use a MMP HPH-24 sabot for the .452 bullets and the MMP HPH 44/50 green sabot for the 44's.
My real go to bullets are Nosler Partitions... .451/260 for deer and .458/300 grain (45-70 rifle bullet) for elk.
Good luck in your search and have fun shooting....

Hey there MoNoFletch,
I'm just starting to work up some loads for my KRB too. Last Sunday I was shooting at 150 yards, using 120g loose T7 w/ CCI primers the best 2 loads (out of 3) were:
1) Hornady 250g SST --> 5-shot group = 3 1/16" .
2) Speer Gold Dot .429d, 270g Soft Point w/ a Harvester crush-rib sabot--> 5-shot group = 3 1/4".
I also tried a HDY .430d, 265g FP w/ crush-rib sabot. Not so good. 1st group of 5 = 7 3/4". Tied another 5 for 3 5/16" for 4-shots, 1 was off the target; but center of that group was ~1 3/4" from the top of the target board. I would really like to get this HDY .44 cal, 265g bullet to shoot well, as it is a bonded bullet designed for the Marlin 444 rifle (with a MV of ~2100-2200 fps). I noted some bullet tip deformation on the 1st group from a less than perfect jag on my short starter. I was more careful during the 2nd group and was using a different tip too.
Have fun working up a load. Would suggest switching to loose powder-- much less exxpensive and much easier to fine tune your loads.

Thanks for the info.....I will hit Bass Pro or Cabella's this weekend and see if they have any of the above. I was wanting my scope and bases to arrive so I could shoot today (4th) but I guess I will wait for my day off..Tuesday! LOL! I do still have the iron sights.....LOL!

250 gr. barnes expanders and 250 gr. bonded shockwaves shoot really well out of my KRB using 110 gr. of FFF triple seven and a triple seven primer. The 385 gr. great plains conicals shoot fairly well using 90 gr. of triple seven, but the 410 gr. GP conicals shoot better. I've got some 375 gr.SSB bullets I've been meaning to try for a good bit now, but range time has been very limited for me with workprojects and family time. I'll post some results when I get to shoot'em.

Sadly, Hornady seems to have discontinued the 410s.
]Don't tell me that! I love that bullet for hogs. I guess I need to shop around and find whatever stock is still left out there.

Probably why they discontinued the 410 GP. I agree, they shot excellent out of my X-150 i had.
"Now all you have to do is
convince 99.9 % of the shooters that a flat point bullet will out
perform a Hollow Point and a speer pointed bullet because they have
about 40 years of magazine articles, paid writers and misconceptions
that tell them different, and the fact is 99.9 % of the shooters won't
buy them!!!!"
