Hey there MoNoFletch,
I'm just starting to work up some loads for my KRB too. Last Sunday I was shooting at
150 yards, using 120g loose T7 w/ CCI primers the best 2 loads (out of 3) were:
1)
Hornady 250g SST --> 5-shot group = 3 1/16" .
2)
Speer Gold Dot .429d, 270g Soft Point w/ a Harvester crush-rib sabot--> 5-shot group = 3 1/4".
I also tried a
HDY .430d, 265g FP w/ crush-rib sabot. Not so good. 1st group of 5 = 7 3/4". Tied another 5 for 3 5/16" for 4-shots, 1 was off the target; but center of that group was ~1 3/4" from the top of the target board. I would really like to get this HDY .44 cal, 265g bullet to shoot well, as it is a bonded bullet designed for the Marlin 444 rifle (with a MV of ~2100-2200 fps). I noted some bullet tip deformation on the 1st group from a less than perfect jag on my short starter. I was more careful during the 2nd group and was using a different tip too.
Have fun working up a load. Would suggest switching to loose powder-- much less exxpensive and much easier to fine tune your loads.
