was wondering if anybody does there own. i am also curious as to why hevishot loads only go up to about 1.5oz for turkeys in 12 gauge. shouldn't you be able to put over two ounces of hevi into the same hull that they put two ounces of lead in?

I load 3" 1 5/8 oz of 6 at 1300 FPS .
It is deffenitly worth it if you all ready have the shot ,wads ect for duck hunting.
The reason for the lower shot charges is that hevi shot and lead need to be loaded differently for safty and a heaveyer charge would not be able to be pushed fast enough.
My 1 5/8 oz load patterens tighter at 50 yds than any 2 oz lead load dose at 35 yds.
Last year I just about removed a turkeys head at 40 yds.

48th can you tell me how many turkeys you have killed with Hevi-Shot?
I have been hunting them at the semi-religious level for over 20 years (with the majority of that in that "shang ri la" of turkeydom known as southern MO) and have been shooting HeviShot for the last 5 years. The stuff is LIGHTYEARS ahead of even the best copper plated loads from Winchester. And yes I was a FANATIC for Win. Sup. 2oz 3.5" #5s before my eyes were awakened too HS.
The way Remington loads HS prevents it from being offered in anything heavier than 1.75oz in 3.5" 12ga. In all honesty and too the gun, our testing showed that regardless of shell length, the lightest HS load offered patterned better than the heavier load of the same length. And typically the 3" loads patterned better than the 3.5" loads. But we didnt know we were overchoking the 3.5"ers. Drop back from a .655-.665 constriction to something in the upper 670s and the 3.5" HS loads will SHINE!!! You just cant constrict facotory HS very much or it wont pattern very well.
Enter Nitro!!! Throw away most of what I said above when talking about this "majical turkey dust". Guys this stuff is AWESOME. Ray's 2.25oz 3.5" triplex (4,5 & 7s) is simply a turkey "howitzer". With the right Rhino tube, any big 12 can easily become a 70+ yd EFFECTIVE turkey machine.
I cant wait to crank back out my ol POS 835 with a new Rhino and some 835loads from Nitro.
