Anger? Dispute? Disagreement? Wounded pride? Hurt feelings?
Hunting stand? Property rights? Right of way? Parking space?
Does it really matter? Not to me. There is no defense for such actions. No understanding. Don't waste anyone's time trying to give background information or using the "we'll never know what started it"! Does it matter? What could possibly come from this person's mouth that would cause me to say "Oh, well that makes it okay then...I understand"? Nothing. Here in the Dallas area, a woman just killed her baby by cutting the arms off of her 11 month old!!! Common theme? People do bad things for reasons no rational, sane individual could ever understand.
All comes down to one thing......lack of respect for human life. No different than what goes on a daily basis in this country. Happens every day in our inner cities, gang violence, suburbs.......has become so common place in this country that we don't even blink when the nightly news reports another person was stabbed/shot/run over/whatever.........just that the uniqueness of this tragedy warranted coverage and caught the eyes and ears of those of us that participate in this arena. In a strange way, it is heartening to know that this is an isolated incidence and does catch our collective attention.
I don't see immigrant, native, white, black or anything else.........I only see someone that made a decision to disregard the sanctity that is human life, no reason or excuse could ever cloud that truth.
God bless the families of those people lost in this tragedy. My prayers go out to them.

CRAAAZY !!! I agree that the guy should get a short rope and a high bridge, but considering his background if he was outnumbered, and the guys were waving guns, then he could very well have thought that it was them or him. the victims may very well have pointed guns and threatened him. We had a rancher around here whos son liked to catch people crossing their property(the ranch is checkerboarded one section public, one private and about 400,000acres), pull them over, then get out w/ a AR-15, put it in their face and bully/threaten/intimidate/humiliate the unsuspecting party. I saw him at the local bar after one such incident and he was rolling with laughter about this guy and his wife and two little kids who hed just jumped. I calmly walked over got about 1/2" from his face face and told him he was a chicken **** coward and hed better memorize my truck because if he comes at my vehicle in that manner when my wife and kids are in there hes gonna get killed no questions asked until the sheriff and coronor show up. So as bad as this guy seems, you never know for sure. when you put a gun in the face of someone who grew up in a war zone bad things will happen one way or another. I guess all I'm saying is you dont know what happened so its really hard to judge whats justified or not. The bottom line is common sense and courtesy may have kept this from happening, think how differently this would have turned out if they had invited into their camp rather than running him off. Its just sad.

Whether you are in right or whether you are in the wrong....
When someone has a gun, you humiliate and/or intimidate them at your own risk --- never a good idea --- if something snaps inside them or inside you, it can take on a life of its own and then it's just too late....
What Vang did ain't right, and he's going to prison, but I'm thinking the other side wasn't exactly squeeky clean....

The very idea of being a sportsman means you are above doing something like this. This is a very serious act. It shows the lack of respect for anything that is sweeping through this country. I will sue them or kill them attitude show the lack of personal responsibility. This has become the prime issue today. If either side had walk away, situation over. But me first was more important than what was right. Shooting at somebody isn't a mistake. Remember the statement from hunter ed, don't point a gun at anything you don't want to kill. Well they got it right didn't they!

In my opinion Vang was never shot at. Everybody here knows that if there was any evidence of that the media would be saying that he came under fire and had no choice to shoot back. He was the first and only one who shot. It has never been said that any shell casings were found from differant guns. Very few of the other hunters were armed, and to my knowledge, none of them had SKS's. It would be all over if any evidence was found that he was shot at first. Even if that would have been the case, that doesnt explain him running guys down in the woods and shooting them in the back. I heard that he said to one of them after he shot them once, Oh you fu#ker your not dead.
All i have to say to that is that he has lived in America for somewhere near 25 years and is an experienced "hunter," if you can call him that. He has been caught trespassing before, probably at that same place. Living in America for 25 years, i highly doubt that he would think he is going to get killed. He knew he was doing something wrong, and if he didnt well he should have, there is no excuse for climbing in somebody elses stand. Even if it is on public land.
His wife and kids were not with him, he was in their deer stand, he deserved to be humiliated.
You say you think he should be strung up, then you start talking like your on his side, i think he should be strung up by his nuts and let the families of those hunters hear him scream. Maybe they were threatening him and waving their guns, but talk is cheap. He was not harmed in any way, and he killed six people and wounded two more. There is no excuse whatsoever for that.

because if he comes at my vehicle in that manner when my wife and kids are in there hes gonna get killed no questions asked

Talk IS cheap. to many people think that they can say whatever they want, and have no reprecusions, look at all the pro athletes yap, yap, yaping all the time. bottom line if you dont have anything nice to say keep your trap shut. if your going off on someone and are stupid enough to wave a gun in any manner you deserve to be dead, threatening someone w/ a gun IS A FELONY. If someone is committing a felony against you, you have the right to self defense. you or I haveing grown up in the shelter of the good ol USA cant imagine what's going on inside that guys head once he was shot at. The only point I wanted to make was that when you act like an a$$ you can pay a heavy price and shouldn't get much sympathy. If you read vangs version he was shot at first, if thats true one jerk on the other side got himself and his buddies killed. Once shots are fired all bets are off, you cant even know what you would do in that situation, ask a policeman whos been shot at.

tofer - I did read the police report and vang claims he was, and that they surrounded and started in on him, then fired a shot at him(maybe just in his direction to scare him? who knows?) as he was leaving. My real point was that this is america where your innocent until proven guilty. As for the media telling us what really went on, give me a break, They arent going to tell the public that a guy with one of those EVIL ASSULT WEAPONS actually used that evil device for legitimate self defense. That doesnt help their cause. One side says it was totally unprovoked murder and the other says total self defense, my guess is as said earlier the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
