You cant go wrong with that set up. It should be all the gun you will ever need for any animal you hunt. Just shoot it alot, as long as it doesnt kick you to bad and you can shoot good consistant groups and know your limits (as far as range, 200yds-300yds) Just try to be comfortable and put the bullet in the right spot, and you will get to do a lot of pack boarding. Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

I just went out and bought a 300 WSM friday havent had a chance to shoot it but im 15 and the ballistics on the rifle with a 150 grain bullet are impressive drop 8.8 inches @ 300 yards when zeroed in at 100 and.....The WSM is just like a regular magnum only not belted and will do fine for all big game animals in North America and Africa with the right bullets from wenchester right now im shooting 180 grains well goin to shoot but for elk and moose this gun is perfect just make sure ur shot is good.

The only concern I would have is will that WSM stand the test of time. If the market does not accept it and it's dropped from manufacting---then ammo will be hard to find & expensive. I asked the same question when I was 16---- I got a 30/06 bolt action & a 2.5x8 Leupold scope. It has never let me down, I've tasken elk, bear, deer, bighorn, Mtn Goat, antelope--- never a problem. I know an 06 is not new or exciting ---- it's plain jane but it works !!

I think you'll have a perfect rig for what you plan on doing.
That combo will let you hunt just about anything, anywhere, for the rest of your life. Congratulations on a well thought-out decision. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

This is an informal observation but bear with me: I went to the Local Bass Pro Shop on Saturday(deer opener) and looked at their ammunition racks: Basically they had a ton of 30/30,243,308,270,30-06,7 rem mag,300 win mag from different manufacturers. 2 boxes of 300 Ultramags a few boxes of 338's(Remington mfg), 375 h&H,375Ultra and tons of 270 wsm,7wsm,300 wsm and even ballistic tip 270 wsm(Remington mfg). Folks whether you like them or not are not this class of cartridges is not going away anytime soon. No 7 saum or 300 saum anywhere in the store.

.308 Win and .30/06 Springfield are both fine for moose. The .300 WSM pushes the same bullet at a slighty higher velocity so it should do fine.
The scope you selected is a great choice for big game hunting.

For moose I use a Model 70 Classic Stainless 300WSM with leupold Vari-X 3 2.5 to 8. It did a good job for me this fall on a bull at just over 175 yds with 180 gr. fail safe's. I personally think it's a little more than necessary for deer. My deer rifle being a model 70 Compact Classic 7mm.08 with Leupold Vari-X 3 1.5 to 5. If I could have only one rifle for both deer & elk/moose sized game I'd choose a 30.06 because of greater factory ammo choice. That's just my opinion. And by the way, if it's any indication of the viewed longevity of the 300 WSM, Sako are planning on chambering it in 2003 in their model 75 Hunter and model 75 Finlight. I'm told this means designing a new action as none of their four current actions will work with the 300 WSM cartridge. I would think if they didn't have faith in it they'd be holding off. gg
