RE: .300 WSM for elk or moose?? what do you think??
For moose I use a Model 70 Classic Stainless 300WSM with leupold Vari-X 3 2.5 to 8. It did a good job for me this fall on a bull at just over 175 yds with 180 gr. fail safe's. I personally think it's a little more than necessary for deer. My deer rifle being a model 70 Compact Classic 7mm.08 with Leupold Vari-X 3 1.5 to 5. If I could have only one rifle for both deer & elk/moose sized game I'd choose a 30.06 because of greater factory ammo choice. That's just my opinion. And by the way, if it's any indication of the viewed longevity of the 300 WSM, Sako are planning on chambering it in 2003 in their model 75 Hunter and model 75 Finlight. I'm told this means designing a new action as none of their four current actions will work with the 300 WSM cartridge. I would think if they didn't have faith in it they'd be holding off. gg
