Official Team Tip 1 Over! Thread (29)

Yeah boys....let's keep politics out of here! There's no quicker way to start bad blood or a fight than by discussing RELIGION or POLITICS, and we don't need any of that in here.
Lucan, I'd like to say WELCOME to the great sport that is BOWHUNTING! I didn't know you were a virgin so to speak, and perhaps neither did the rest of the team, so if you have ANY questions, feel free to ask. I do want to tell you though to not put too much pressure on yourself to score BIG for this contest or for anyone else's standards. I can still remember my first archery buck like it was yesterday, and he was basically a mut! He was a solid 1 1/2 year old deer weighing in at 131 dressed, but he had one of the ugliest racks I had ever seen to this date. At the time did I care? HELL NO! I was learning, and to me that buck was the greatest thing on earth at the time, but as I matured and gained more experience....so did my goals for hunting. Would I trade any of the smaller bucks I shot early in my career? Again...NO. I came away from each one having learned something new, and it made me a better hunter.
I'm sure some of the other guys will be chiming in as well to tell you that experience is the best teacher, and I can promise you that if you set your sights too high to start off, it could easily lead to a lot of frustration and disappointment. I'm not going to tell you how to hunt or preach at you, but we will be looking forward to hearing your stories of your hunts as in a lot of ways you are going to be seeing things for the first time. It's a far different thing hunting with a bow vs. a firearm, and I'm confident you're absolutely going to love it!

HEY RATTLESNAKE1 I GOT YOUR PM. I WILL BE HUNTING MOSTLY IN UNION AND CRITTENDEN COUNTY KY. I HAVE THREE FARMS IN UNION TO HUNT. HOWEVER, I HUNT CRITTENDEN MOST OF THE TIME THE FARMS I HUNT BOARDER TC GAME TRAILS. MY BEST LOCATION HAS A FOOD PLOT AND DEER GO BACK THE FORTH FROM ME TO GAME TRAILS. THE YEAR BEFORE LAST MY NABIOR SHOT A 21 POINTER THAT SCORED 185 2/8TH. LAST YEAR I FAILED TO GET A SHOT AT A 12 POINTER WITH A NICE DROP TINE. I DID HOWEVER SHOT A 10 POINTER THAT SCORED 144 AND 4/8 IN KY. I ALSO SHOT A MAIN FRAME 10 WITH A BROKE OFF STICKER THAT SCORED 151 IN INDIANA. OUR KY SEASON OPENS SEPTEMBER 6TH HOWEVER, I WILL BE GUIDING BY SON THAT OPENING WEEKEND FOR HIS FIRST TURKEY WITH A BOW. MY HUNTING WILL START ON THE 12TH ONE DAY BEFORE I LEAVE TO GO OUT OF STATE ON WORK. ONCE BACK HOWEVER I PLAN TO HUNT WEEKENDS TILL ABOUT MID OCTOBER. AFTER THAT I WILL HUNT ONCE OR TWICE DURING THE WEEK AND ALMOST EVER WEEKEND BEING LIKE MOST WEEKEND WORRIORS.
HOPEFULL THIS YEAR I WILL REMEMBER TO TAKE A PHOTO WITH MY BOW IN THE PICTURE. LAST YEAR WHEN I SHOT MY KENTUCKY BUCK IT WAS LATE BEFORE I TRACKED HIM AND I HAD LEFT MY BOW AT THE FARM HOUSE. WHEN I FOUND HIM WE DID SOME B ROLL FOR A VIDEO THEN LOADED HIM UP IN MY FRIENDS TRUCK. WE TOOK A COUPLE OF PHOTOS THEN IT WAS OFF TO THE BUTERS. IN INDIANA I LEFT MY BOW AT THE TREE CAUSE I KNEW I HAD TO CROSS A DEEP CREEK TO GET MY DEER. WE TOOK PHOTO'S AT CAMP HOWEVER I LEFT MY BOW ON THE 4 WHEELER.
WELL I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU A BETTER IDEA OR A LITTLE MORE OF MY BACKGROUND. IF ANY OF YOU ARE IN UNION COUNTY KENTUCKY LOOK ME UP AT JIMS SPORTS DEPOT OR AT MY SHOP RJP OUTDOORSWHERE WE CAMOUFLAGE TRUCKS, BOATS AND SO ON.
GOOD HUNTING TO ALL TEAM MEMBERS.

Sounds like ya got some bigguns running around down there Randy. I posted this earlier in the thread bud, but I'll say it again. Please make sure that you get a few pics to choose from for the contest with THE ENTIRE DEER, YOU, and YOUR BOW in the picture. Anything other than that will NOT be allowed into the contest. If you get any trailcam pics or some pics of past adventures, we'd love to see them bud!

Good morning and I am checking in. I was told to introduce myself so here we go. I live in sunny Florida in St. Petersburg. I have a financial planning office and I am an independent with Raymond James. College at USF and just live to enjoy the outdoors.
Now the meat and taters. I had not been hunting in a LOONNNGGGG time (21 years) and got an offer from a buddy to go try his place. I met him through spear fishing which I used to do professionaly and I got really hooked on this land hunting thing. After dropping way to much money on guns (I like pretty wood) and other stuff I decided I would try land spearfishing I.E the bow.
Holy crap I like bow hunting. I gives me an adrenalin rush very unlike when I use my rifles. I also enjoy how hard it is to connect with the critters when they are close enough to see you blink. I have learned a LOT about scent control from this site but here in the swamp just hunt the wind.
I am a HOG hunter. Chasing Wilbur around in the swamp is a blast and they are pretty damn smart. Noses are very keen and if you can get by them then you can probably beat a deers nose. With that in mind I have not been able to beat a hogs nose yet. I am hoping to connect with a buck but I have a nasty habit of filling my freezer first.
Speaking of deer I think this team might be a bit handicapped with two hunters from Florida. I have a lease in north Florida for a bit over 5 months now and in a normal day I will see from 10 to 20 deer. The only problem is that our deer down here are the size of golden retrievers. A typical deer is around 100 pounds with the giants at maybe 150 pounds. Our bucks sport racks that you guys laugh at. I look at the photos on the trail cam section and hear those guys saying to let the buck go he is to small and I laugh. Those deer from Indiana, Illinois, and Texas would be newspaper front page freaks down here. My buddy has managed his property for 12 years including all the surrounding owners of the farms and he killed his biggest rack deer in 23 years of hunting in Florida. It taped at 138 inches and was 5 ½ years old. So I am hoping to give the team as much points as possible but you are probably going to laugh at our “little basket rack 6 and 8 points”.
If any of you care to go after some pigs also and want to give the wife and kids a Mickey the Rat vacation, pop me a p.m. and we can go create some pork while they enjoy waiting in hour long swealtering lines for a ride. On that note Flboy77 what are you doing this evening? I am going up to do a hog killing blind building combo this evening. I have some open stands so if you are interested let me know. I hunted the WMA’s for a while and they just do not compare.

Good luck all

No, seriously, I saw a couple bucks the other night on a property that borders my hunting ground that were pushing those numbers, so I am definitely hopeful, but I am not going to wait on a "huge" one.....
