Well, I went out last night here in KY and it was HOT. My stand is on an an oak ridge top and it is quite a haul with the Ol' Man on the back. As I was making my way towards the top I found myself soaked with sweat. So, I decided to keep my spot free from my scent and hunted a few oak trees loaded with acorns about half way up. All I saw was a bunch of squirrels, but my buddy made a good shot on a doe that was in a group of 4 at about 7:30.
After I finished hunting, I got down to help him recover it only to find that a michevious beagle had given the doe a run for her money. We found her bed, and the blood looked real good and foamy (double lung), but the beagle put her in survivor mode and she was gone. We laid off, to calm her down, only to track her for four hours to find a blood trail that had stopped. We made semicircle after circle to find nothing. My friend was pretty disapointed but thats how it happens sometimes. However, not the way I would have liked for my first time out this year to go. I've decided though, until the temps drop to low 70's/60's, my bow is staying in the case. It's impossible to hunt "scent free" when the temp is in the 80's. When I hunt when its hot, I'm ticked off...so I'm waiting for a cool down. Best of luck to yall.

Manage, that stinks.I'd be pretty ticked if some dog pulled that on me. I just emailed mazur1. He never replied to my PM. I hope we don't need an alternate for our alternate. The mornings have been in the low 50s here and opening day is Friday! I'm psyched!

Hey Mazur1 welcome to the team! Well guys I checked my trail cam the other day and the 2 bucks i have been watching still seem to be on the same pattern, which could mean very good things for me, i thought there patterns would have changed by now seeing the crops are maturing faster than normal this year - soybeans have all turned yellow. The temps have been in the 50's for highs since Saturday, but opening day is on Saturday and it looks like the temps are going to be back in the mid 70's, OH well still pumped and i can't wait!!!

RIStrutstopper, I vote that you be our team captain (if that's all right). You got the ball rolling on the thread and came up with a good name and avatar. Thanks for taking the bull by the horns! I'm sure you will do a great job and help lead us to victory!

Thanks Ohbowguy, after today's opener in CT, its looking like the name and the avatar may be the only help I provide for the team... Well, it was a pretty lousy WET and Noisy opening day (DEP decided to cut brush about 300 yards from my stand all day with heavy machinery). I'll reply to RDhunter and tell him I'm the captain, at least for now. We should really vote on it though, it looks like some of you guys have much better prospects than myself as far as a big buck is concerned.

Thanks DNK and Ohbowguy. Yesterday was a lousy opener, horrible rain and the DEP decided to cut brush with heavy equipment about 300 yards from my stand... Today was much better weather wise. Did the afternoon watch, and had 2 groups of does coming from different directions. One group of 5 and another of 2. I took a shot at the lead doe of the smaller group, but unfortunately it was a bad hit. It was a bit high and farback, I think... She jumped up in the air and wheeled around and dropped in her tracks. I thought I spined her, and after a few minutes, I checked my cell phone cuz it was buzzing earlier while I was watching the deer. I figured my buddy might need help dragging or something, but it wasnt him. To my surprise, the doe I shot who dropped just on the other side of a stone wall got up and ran! She took off onto another property and ran along the edge of a corn field. About an hour after the shot, my buddy and I tracked her for a good distance with a lantern. We saw her eyes lit up in the distance, but she was bedded down and we didnt want to push her. We're going to head back in the morning to see if she's still there. Hopefully she'll expire and not get pushed by Coyotes. Wish me luck.
