RE: 29 - Team "Antler Addicts" Official Thread
Well, I went out last night here in KY and it was HOT. My stand is on an an oak ridge top and it is quite a haul with the Ol' Man on the back. As I was making my way towards the top I found myself soaked with sweat. So, I decided to keep my spot free from my scent and hunted a few oak trees loaded with acorns about half way up. All I saw was a bunch of squirrels, but my buddy made a good shot on a doe that was in a group of 4 at about 7:30.
After I finished hunting, I got down to help him recover it only to find that a michevious beagle had given the doe a run for her money. We found her bed, and the blood looked real good and foamy (double lung), but the beagle put her in survivor mode and she was gone. We laid off, to calm her down, only to track her for four hours to find a blood trail that had stopped. We made semicircle after circle to find nothing. My friend was pretty disapointed but thats how it happens sometimes. However, not the way I would have liked for my first time out this year to go. I've decided though, until the temps drop to low 70's/60's, my bow is staying in the case. It's impossible to hunt "scent free" when the temp is in the 80's. When I hunt when its hot, I'm ticked off...so I'm waiting for a cool down. Best of luck to yall.
