Default Deer food plots?

What product works best for attracting and keeping deer? I am in northern WI and the plot will be 60 acres deep in the woods with atv and foot the only way in. I was looking at secret spot or no-plow by imperial. Thank You.

To add to what has been said, try to clear as much of the leaves, weeds, and debris as possible. Also try to disturb the soil. If nothing else use a garden rake to loosen up the top layer of soil. For the seed to germinate it needs to have good soil contact. After spreading the seed try " gently" driving over it with an atv to press the seed into the soil. As far as the type of seed, the Imperial No-Plow has contains an annual clover which means it will have to be replanted next year. You might try Ladino, White Dutch, or Kenland Red clover which are perenials. I' ve had really good luck with all of those. I' m going to try a new variety of white clover this year called Durana. They say it is very similar to White Dutch clover but holds up a lot better to heavy grazing. Make sure you use an innoculant. You can get it at most any feed/seed store for $5 or less and will make a big difference on the outcome of the plot. You' ve already been told but I' ll say it again. Get a soil test. Probably the single most important thing you can do. Good Luck!!!

I spent the last three days re-seeding of my food plots. My plots range in sizes from 1 acre to 20 acres. The food plots I had to re-seed were planted with soy beans, cow peas and Aust. beans. They were planted very thick and last week when I went to top dress all the plots and 5 were completely eaten by the deer! I re-seeded them with rape, Aust. beans, rye and turnips. I put a combo of each in the 5 plots. I have used all of these and they seem to work very well and will last through winter. I also make large mineral licks around each food plot. -- CDH

I like wheat and clover best for my plots, I also like to keep the size of them down to 2 acres or less, They don' t need to be very big at all, I would rather have 10-1 acre plots than 1-10 acre plot.

Last year I planted winter rye grass at my house and had deer eating in my yard throughout the winter.

I have never seen deer in my neighborhood before in the 5 years I have lived there. I see them quite frequently in near by areas on the way home. To the best of my knowledge they were drawn to the grass.

You have to keep rye grass mowed or the deer will not eat it once it gets to tall. But having this experience I will try it on my deer lease this season. It' s cheap and easy to plant.

Also going to plant a small area of secret spot tomorrow. Never used it before so only time will tell.
