The arguments I heard against it was that on Sundays, hikers and non hunters could enjoy the woods without fear of being shot....
Well someone could make that argument regarding public land where hunting is allowed but it does nothing to explain why it's kosher to tell a private land owner that he can't hunt his own land on Sundays.

I don't see how these laws could stand up to a constitutional challenge in court. They are a clear case of using the law to force a religious belief on others. Even here in Alabama (Heart of the Bible belt) most of the blue laws about alcohol sales on Sunday are fading away. A no hunt ban on Sunday would never pass here.

Well, a lot of those people opposed to Sunday Hunting were land owners as well as Church goers. One guy in particular is a neighbor of mine. He's a great guy, gave me permission to hunt on his property and fish in his bass pond. His comment to me was that bullets know no boundaries and he reserves his property for his grand children to use on Sundays for hiking and scouting.

And as the owner of that land I fully support his "INDIVIDUAL" right to allow or restrict hunting on his land whatever day of the week he wants. But don't tell me what a great guy he is if he supports using the law to force other private land owners to honor his holy day. That's just wrong.

It's like I have always known. There are way too many people out there that cannot just be content to live their lives as they see fit and leave you to do the same so long as what you are doing doesn't harm them, their property or their rights. Nope, they have to use the law to "force" you to be just like them. People like that are basically clueless to the concept of what makes America great. In short they are piss poor citizens that I'll be happy to see go the way of the Do Do.

I hunted National Forest's in VA for several years. We would use Sunday as a scouting day since it is illegal to hunt on Sunday. Very seldom would any of us see all these people that claim Sunday is the only day they have to use the woods.

I agree with Todd1700 here. It's fine for a landowner to restrict hunting on his own property but what right does he have to tell me when I can hunt my property?

as a land owner in upstate NY 50 acres that borders state land
i also take my land personally to have a place for my son, nieces and nephews to learn their way in the woods safely,
but would never impose a sunday ban on others so i can have piece of mind on sunday
if my family isnt safe on my land because of other hunters, i dont care what day of the week it is, their actions are a threat to my family whether its on sunday saturday or monday.

I can understand hikers and non hunters wanting safe haven while outdoors, there could be a compromise on that.
first education let non hunters know rifle season is fairly short in most states,
distance wise bow, shotgun, ML, are not that much of a threat,
also teach hunters to keep a further distance from maintained trails.
i often see hunters setting up right near a maintained trail when theres thousands of acres out of sight of the trail

Hiking and scouting on Sunday sure don't sound like a day of rest to me.......I wonder if he feel it's ok to go fishing in his pond on Sunday.........???????.......shouldn't he give the fish a day of rest too just like the deer...??????

Still not allowed in PA, we have some damn hard-headed, stubborn people in this state. I usually make the ride to NY state if I want to hunt all weekend.

another benefit to sunday hunting is within state weekend hunts,
PA lost alot of hunting camps and such, because weekend hunters dont want a place they can only hunt 1 day ,
and many dont drive cross state to hunt other parts of the state,
if PA allowed sunday hunting may revitalize hunting camps and get alot of movement of hunters within the state,
i would like to go hunt tioga county region, but not for 1 day

All true. I got fed up about 10 years ago and bought a camp in NY for just this reason. Old ideas and traditions die hard in this state it seems.
