is a 25-06 good for hunting deer?

kicks more than a .30-30, less than a .270. The powder charge is the same as a .270, but the .270 is... .270 of an inch and the .25-06 is .257 of an inch. Since the powder charge is pushing less lead out of the case, there's less resistance from the bullet, so won't get as much recoil. But honestly, you won't really notice the difference in recoil between the two rounds.

The 25-06 is a fine round, very flat shooting and not to finicky to reload for. For deer hunting I would chose a bullet weight between 100 and 120gr. Smaller grains are made for varmit hunting, thats not to say that they want kill a deer, but there not made for deer hunting. I dont think that you would besorry for chosing the 25.

Tmout, my wife and 9 year old daughter hunt with the 25-06,both girls weigh less than you,the one I haveis the Ruger M77VT model and is heavier than the average gun but the recoil is nothing on this particular gun... You should be fine at 125# with any of them...Like greg said, it is a flat shooting round and a good deer round as well....
