is a 25-06 good for hunting deer?

Yes... I use the 90 grain Winchester CXP-1 .... They do the job, a couple weeks ago it put the smack down on a big ol' boar hog too.... I have several rifles of different calibers, the 25-06 is my favorite....

25-06 is a great deer round. I currently use the 30-06 or .243, but a friend of mine took two this year with his 25-06 and some 90gr handloads. He lives in Montana and routinely takes a couple of mule deer with it every year. He has used everything from 70gr-125gr.

The .25-06 is quite a round, sight it in at 200 yards if you can, it only drops around 3 inches at that distance. I prefer my .270 when I'm in the woods, but the .25-06 is the Hammer of Thor on deer in fields. I load mine with 115 gr. Nosler Partition rounds or 117 gr. BTSPs. I used to use a .243 in fields, but after using a .25-06, I don't really see the point.
