I like when there's adrizzle but downpours make deer lay up. The rain makes it quiet getting in! I like the overcast aspect of it because I believe deer are more at ease than on bright days.

The deer around here seem to like light rain and mist, they actually move more. Same with snow. However if it is rainging hard or very windy I don't think they move as much. It really messes the senses they use. If it rains hard it is noisy and they can't hear as well, it also washes the scent out of the air faster. Same with heavy winds. If they do move it is very slow and they are very skittish.

However mist an snow is cool and quiet so they love to move around in that. They can hear well and it is more comfortable for them I think.

And from what I have seen they love snow storms! It just makes it hard to track them if it is snowing hard. The tracks and blood get covered up pretty fast.

And from what I have seen turkeys hate the rain! I have been out twice when it rained and they shut down. They can be very active and then they will just stop and go for cover if they are in a field. A few minutes later it will rain like magic. Then if it gets nice again they will come out in about half an hour or so and respond to calls.

I'm not an expert hunter though, just what I have seen in the pase 5 years and been told by other hunters.

in the sixteen years that i have been hunting i have found that in a drizzle or light rain that deer will move about like normal... during a heavy rain they tend to find cover and lay low... this is when knowing how to still hunt/stalk comes in really handy.

I believe the deer move around more in the rain as compared to the same situation if it were sunny. I prefer to hunt on cloudy days and when there is light to moderate rain falling. I have had some good success in the rain and less hunters in the woods!

I agree. A light drizzle or mist can be productive but a torrential downpour keeps me in the truck.

light rain seems good to me. just remember that the more time in the woods, the more opportunities to see that big one. i shot my largest buck at noon.

Iusually noticemore deer movement on rainy days than on bright clear days. When a big storm comes along though, there will usually be a surge in deer movement just before the storm, with a sharp drop in movement during the storm. After the storm there will often be another peak in movement.
