just got back from hunting michigans u.p. near wiconson, my buddy and I traded stands every other day i ended up seeing a total of 45 deer over 7 days and he saw only 2 out of the same locations, made him crazy. i guess the moral of the story is you can do everythingrite, in the rite spot. and still get hosed, thats just huntung

All through bow season and BP season I seen at lease 1 deer everyday I went huntin. Passed on almost all of them except the first few for the freezer. Once shotgun season started and they turned dogs out the deer around here have went on a night time only patern. All of my trail camera pics and sightings have been at night. All I know is you can't pattern deer when there is a dog chasing it. I've been trying to get one specific buck but he is all but gone since dog season has arrived. Next year I am going to concentrate on bow and BP season where you can actually hunt deer.

I'm having a bad season myself, though it's not over yet.
I borrowed a bow thanksgiving weekend because I couldn't wait till rifle season and had two does just out of range. Seeing deer is encouraging, and I felt good about the rifle season--and then didn't see a deer the whole time. Others who hunt the property got their bucks, so why I had such problems is anyone's guess.
I still have a couple of weeks with the bow, and a three day doe season so hope is still there.
Thinking about it, there's been bad luck (wind shifting and days with heavy wind), mistakes (wacking a fence post with a folding chair because I didn't see it in the dark), and subpar preparation. This season has taught me I need to do more scouting and be more judicious about stand sights. I could have increased my chances, I think, by having some stands in different locations besides the one I used. I also need to pinpoint exactly where are the bedding, feeding and traveling. I was admittedly lax about this and relying more on general knowledge that deer frequent a given area. When they didn't show up as they usually do, I didn't have much to base a new strategy upon e.g. what food source they might have begun using or where they might have begun bedding.
This has been good for learning, if nothing else.

Having my best season ever. Killed a personal best buck the first day that I gun hunted and ten minutes later killed one bigger than that. I have killed two bucks and two does in two states, and still have tags left. I have been hunting for forty four years and it just keeps getting better.
