I use some scent block spray before I take off in the morning.
I usually hunt very steep country and there are normally definite thermals down in the morning/everning and then switching to uphill during the day.
Climbing a couple thousand feet up or down in the morning to get into position before light can definitely get you to sweating, so I mainly just watch the wind and don' t waste money on scent control products.
I can definitely see how tree stand hunting or hunting in flatter country with more random winds the scent control products might help a lot. I have heard very good reviews on the charcoal suits (scentlocker).

I was hoping by posting more details, some of others would elobrate for PAhunter. I know he is new to the sport and would probably be very happy to weed through the results to try something for himself.

[:-] I have been looking into some ways of scent-control. I hung my clothes outside and used scent killer spray and deodarant this past season. Didn' t get anything, but that just makes me more excited for the 2003-2004 season

Just wanted to say this is a very informative post. I thought I did well using the " special soaps" but I' ve learned there are further steps to take. Thanks.

not far at all...the night before i dont shower with soap...just scrub my body and hair with water...dont brush my teeth just brush with water that morning...no deoderant or anything smelly...and i hunt the wind...also i wash my clothes in regular water and dry on the line...off season they hang in the garage that smells like outside....some say thats not enough but i have yet to have a deer bust me if i didnt move and the wind was right....now when they come in the wind im busted before they get withing 50yds or so...with the wind perfect and im motionless ive been fine with a bunch of eyes at 5yds...even in my turkey clothes during the spring which a i take no precautions for i still have them close....im not all caught up in the scent lock stuff and soaps and stuff...maybe one day i will change but i hope not...if you think they are needed great..im nto against them at all...i just dont think the way i hunt needs them...

I do as mausero6 suggested.
Many times I hunt after work wearing my work clothes. Usually quite soaked with the smells from a machine shop. I' ve been busted occasionally but it' s never been a major concern.

I guess I' m from the " Old School" . I try to be as scent free naturally and do not make a habit of using a lot of the commercial products that are available today. I keep my hunting clothes in separate containers and never wear them unless going into the woods. To me, being woods smart is more important than trying to mask my scent. The problem I see that could cause some concern is not constantly being aware of the wind. If you use any or all of these products, just don' t let your guard down...there is no substitite for always playing it smart.
