npaden,
I GET the point of your postings. But I think you overdid it on the first one with the tongue and cheek bit, and then you have to read other postings to figure out the use of sarcasm. Maybe I am slow, but I think most people are not expecting a satirical piece of writing on a message board bashing the use of treestands.
I stand hunt and sometimes wish I could do more stalking, but as the point of your posting indicates, you play the hand you're dealt. Most of our hunting land is impenetrable young CRP or old woods like RebelHog showed. You cannot stalk a deer in 5 foot tall palmettos and swamps. Hell, you can hardly stalk a squirrel in it. Not to mention that on the ground you can't see anything due to the palmettos. I really wish our land didn't have prehistoric looking palmettos, but we do, and therefore we stand hunt. Palmettos are apparently why we don't have any &*#$ turkeys! From what I've been told, they don't feel safe enough, as they have no visibility.

A lot of it comes down to why you hunt in the first place. Most of my life I did carpenter work and cement work. When it came time to hunt, it was a break from hard work that interested me. I could work my butt off all week why do it on the weekend. Stand hunting is my favorite way to hunt. I don't hunt from tree stands much except in Canada for Bear and moose but ground blinds or just a fallen tree or a small depression where I can get ready for the shpt and control the range that I choose to shoot is what I enjoy at hunting time. Also I hunt mostly for the meat and the quite of the prairie or forest with just the natural sounds around me.
Most of my deer hunting is on the prairies of western SD. Its not easy to stalk a deer on the prairie. Really hard if there is cactus

It seems that most of the folks that bothered to read more than the first post got my point eventually. I think some people are so closed minded they will never understand or agree with any form of hunting except their own. Others really are more interested in expressing their opinions more than reading others opinions and those are the folks who read my first post and then blasted away at it without bothering to read any of the others.
Not sure if I accomplished anything in the end result. The people that are open minded read the thread and remained that way and the people that are closed minded read the thread and remained that way.
Oh well, I tried!

npaden,
It's kind of like arguing politics or which is the best football team, logic is usually thrown out the window, and people approach the issues with their prejudices.
Try using empirical evidence to convince an anti-gunner that right to carry laws reduce crime and that
the permit holders commit almost no crimes. They won't listen or really argue with you. Instead, it will be a bunch of name calling, your an ignorant redneck, etc. To them guns = bad, if more people are carrying guns then there must be more violence. They won't actually argue facts. It's the same type of thing when people bash somebody else's hunting preferences, preferences that sometimes are regional or are what somebody was raised to do as "right."
In my book, a hunter should follow the laws, be respectful of animals, practice proper gun safety, and not act like a complete idiot. Statistics show that as a percentage of the population, hunters are declining. We ought to stick together.
I don't mean that people should be "accepting of everybody and let's all sing Kumbaya."
If I disagree with someone I will let them know, and if someone thinks that my hunting methods could be improved (they can), I want to hear about it. But posting things like your bow sucks, your a lazy slob for hunting in a stand, your not a real hunter for using a rifle, are ignorant.
That's all for today's sermon

I'm interested to see how you can back this up...
You must do all your hunting from the ground, with homemade bows, arrows, and clothing of course?
And certainly you'd never think of using anything but your own knowledge, skill, and overwhelmingexperienceto successfully hunt deer? Not even internet resources?
Nice try.
Most of the time they have someone drive them to their stand with an ATV or 4x4 and then after they shoot the deer they just drive up and throw it in the pickup or on the ATV and haul it back to the shed to even field dress it.
Instead of getting out and stalking the deer,

Your right findinbone,
If I wasn't stuck babysitting my 11 month old on such nice days (suffering from serious cabin fever) I probably would never be writing such long, ridiculous posts.
I think its time to cut back on the heavy posting.

how can you say that stand hunting is lazy? when nearly everybody hunts from a stand or blind of some sort? how do you expect to get the big bucks if you're not going to pattern them and wait for them? they're not the kind of deer you're going to get from still hunting, they got that big for a reason.
