This isn't a ethic's ? It's the law here,1 antlered deer. If after the season you have to let it go. It's hard for some and not hard for hunters.Just happened yesterday, 12pt at 40 yards broadside right on the railroad tracks. All I could think of , was, you stupid moron you should have carried your bow.

Three years ago I shot a 9pt with a 21" inside spread, 5 minutes after the shot I've got a monster with tines 8-10" long standing broadside at 80 yds. My son's in a tree stand 300 yds away and he still has his buck tag. What did I do, As far as I know the buck is still alive.
This year we all tagged out early with some nice 8pts, except my youngest son who had one of his doe tags and buck tags left and my friend, with a doe tag. I was beating the brush and moved a 11pt within 35 yds of my friend who let the buck walk. The sticker to this is that 3 of us had missed this deer before tagging out, but what good is a bragging size buck if you can't honestly brag about it. My son did fill his remaining doe tag and we all decided 7 deer was enough.

This is a no-brainer! If it is not legal, it's not ethical either! Let it walk!
A few years back I could have shot a trophy buck, but I did not have a tag for it. I could have had a buddy tag it for me later, and I probably could have gotten away with it too. At the time I had shot only smaller bucks and does, but the thought of having an illegal trophy on my wall as my first trophy deer was more guilt than it would have been worth! I would have been ashamed of myself to this day had I shot that buck! Passing up an illegal deer is part of what separates a true hunter from a killer! Killer isn't the word for it, I think the word is POACHING!

I don't want to sound mean, but I bet you would think differently if you saw a big ole' 40 point Non-Typical standing broadside at 15 yards!! I know I would! What are the odds that you will see this once in a lifetime deer ever again? You don't have a camera, so it would just be a story. Then what would you do? I'm not saying that I would shoot at it, I'm trying to open up ideas. It would be a tempting ordeal, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure what I would do.

This very thing happend to a hunting buddy of mine just last week. In a three day doe season he had (what he called) the biggest 8 pt he had ever seen stand under his tree and make a scrape. He said the deer was within spitten distance for at least 15 minutes. He started throwing sticks a him to get him to move off in hopes a doe would come down the trail. He did not shoot a doe in the three days. I ask him if he thought about it and he said " I thought about how big he will be next year. I think he made the right choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would shoot him! With my Sony digital video camera, of course.
I think I can honestly say that nobody wants to get a monster buck more than I do, but if its not legal, it would mean nothing!
I agree with cardeer, its either hunting, or poaching! I`ll take hunting.

Let EM walk. I do and I am from KS, also.
PS I just finished eating some chicken fried backstrap from a buck taken during the legal season. MMMM good.
Antlers are forever and so is the hunting story that goes with it. I say keep it legal.

Geeze I just have to ask a person that would take the buck , what part of doe season didnt you understand? Lets see the doe is the one in season and has no antlers (most of the time) and the buck is the one that is out of season with antlers. If they cant figure this out then they have no buisness being out with a weapon trying to shoot a deer.Guess that would make them a poacher, Ya think!Ethics in my opinion have nothing to do with this because i consider all poachers to have no ethics if they did then we wouldnt call them poachers we would call them fellow hunters.

I don't think I could be proud of something that I had to cheat to accomplish ,I love to hunt because of the fair chase part of it not the killing .If your thing is fair or foul to get your trophy would you be proud of it ? Not me
