Default RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

[size=3] Hi all, Nice to see some new faces.

I was wondering if anyone hunted elk in the Winston Unit. I have never been so dissapointed in the fellow hunter in all my life. When you spend time any money to scout and you know where the bulls are hanging, you expect a good year.

Anyway, here is how it went. Opening moring, up early to get to my spot. Ride the bike in 2 miles past the gate and walk in about 100 yds to the creek bottom.
this is 4am. About 6am I hear barking, and start to wonder what the heck can be barking out here. The barking continues on until daybreak, and I cant belive that I dont see 1 elk all moring. This area had about 16 legal bull in it. Anyway I hear the barking again and turn on the radio to check in . One of my friends said there was a camper parked in the middle of one clearcut and thats where the barking was coming from.
Then we heard talking on the radio numerous times we were down there about hunters shooting 15 times at an elk that was more than 800 yds away. WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE??? I am so pissed off, alot of these guys are lobbing bullets and not really knowing if there are any hunters around. I can tell you all that there was so much orange out there that it looked like Wherehouser war growing pumpkins instead of trees.
We as hunters need to get back to hunting ethically instead of trying to kill the first animal we see, no matter what is in the way. What are the chances, even if you hit a elk at 800 yds how much impact would the shot have even if it hit and how far is that elk going to go by the time you get there. This is the kind of crap that is going to get someone killed and organizations like PETA like to see.
