As a native Montanan who lives in Wa. St. now, it has been interesting to read the comments. I have met many people in various parts of Montana that do not know that I was born and raised there, but yet they have always been courteous and helpful to me. Only thing I would add to the advice is a cautionary note to be AWARE that the winter temps can stay below zero for days or even weeks at a time in parts of MT and 45 below is not uncommon some winters. If you have never experienced that...it will take some getting used to. Best of luck on your new adventure.

Two years ago I pulled into Wolf Point at 4am opening morning of pheasant season and saw 13 year old indian kids walking around the streets with booze, pathetic
I agree it is pathetic but have you ever been to Ronan where two 11 year old boys died from alcohol poisoning. The reservations all have those problems.
I enjoy going to Bozeman, Kalispell, Dillon etc. Hate Missoula with a passion and yet have to travel there twice a month for business. I would still rather live here. I have lived in Germany and traveled throughout Europe for 6 years and in the Middle East for a year. I lived in Bozeman for 5 years. I chose to move to Glasgow to raise my kids and be closer to my and my wife's family.
My cost of living is 1/3 of what my colleagues in Bozeman and Missoula and I make the same money. I understand what you are saying it is pretty but there are WAY to many people over there who ruin it for me.

I hunt antelope in 600 because my in laws own a large ranch up there north of Malta. We took a few nice speed goats off of there last year. 650 is still hurting from the winter 2 years ago. Should be better this fall though. I drove through there and saw lots of does packing triplets.
Hopefully the birds will rebound this fall also.
I will be putting in for my rifle elk tag in 631 again, won't draw but I have to at least go through the motions.

I never realized that there would be this much of a debate over Montana. But I guess it is like that anywhere you go. I am sure Florida would probably be worse. I have always wanted to go there every since I was a kid and now have the means to do it, and my wife is in total agreement. I am trying to book a flight for me and my family to check it out. Found some property by the Musselshell River that looks appealing. I need to check out the job market though. I have never experienced snow before so I am sure that will take some getting used to for me. I have hunted deer in Western KY for the past 6 years and have still yet to experience snow there.

Well K2,
You will either love the winter or hate it.Most just tolerate it.I would not move for love nor money from Montana, well except maybe British Columbia.Thats the only other place I would wan't to live.

I live in the Bitterroot. Beautiful Country! Great hunting and fishing
(sorry there is a lot of greed here) however, I have meet a couple of nice people here.
I agree with muley69 with just how difficult it is for many to make a living here.
It does seam in order to do ok here that one need to be self employed and have employee's. Buy denying them a living salary you can fund your needs quite well.
I love to hunt eastern Montana I never come home with the same hat I left with.
Wow does the wind blow over there.

Whenever I go over west I don't come back with the same hat because all the transplants suck so bad over there. All you western Montana whiners should stay over on the west side of the divide and leave us poor, dumb, stupid Eastern Montana people alone. We would both be better off for it.

Nemont,
Sorry to have offended you about the wind thing. Had I knew you were so sensitive about that issue I would not have mentioned it.
I like the east side of the state. Great country. I can see the vertues of one wanting to live there. Having said, that I still think the wind blows alot over there.
I am also sorry to hear about your issue with your own hat when you make the journey to the west side of the state.
However, I fail to see the correlation between "transplants that suck" and your hat . Maybe you could enlighten me on that one?
Additionaly, I checked through the previouse post on this thread. Where was it that some one referred to eastern Montnana people as being dumb, stupid and poor?
Respectfully submitted,
Montanamaynard
