Default diaphram

I just got a diaphram turkey call today, its the first time i've ever used one. The sounds i'm getting sound more like a monkey than a turkey.. [8D] can someone give me some instructions? I guess my main questions are how far back in my mouth should the call be? like up against my front teeth or back in my throat? also what do i do with my tongue? should i use the tip of my tongue to put pressure on the reads or like the middle of my tongue or what? Any advice/tips/suggestions are welcome.

Q, I know how you feel. The first time I tried one I couldn't get anything out at all except squawks and air. Keep trying, you'll get it. Try having the call sitting roughly in the middle of your mouth. And then touch the tip of your tongue to the call as you force air between the call and your tongue. Once you get a consistent sound you can try moving your jaw as you call, and closing your lips at the end of the call. This can help make your calls sound more realistic.
Also, you might want to try trimming the tape all the way around the frame with scissors. They make the tape big enough to fit everyone, and it is too big for most people. Just take off about 1/16th of an inch and see how it fits. Don't take off too much at once, you can't put it back.
Good Luck!

Does anyone else know these words or sounds or whatever? I've got a cluck down good, need help on others.

All you need is practice. I tried to say words to help but it didn't, I would practice when ever i drove. When you hear the sound that sounds best to you just remember what postion it was in and how you huffed. I put it mid in my mouth and push up on my throat(like a gag almost) and huff air to make the sound. I guess when i started i would say "rock or rocks" but went with what sounded best. Hope this helps.

purr- gargle back of throat like your trying to slowly cough up a loogie with lips like your going to whistle....or vibrate lips

cluck- pick, peck, puck, putt

putt- sharp clucks ( not really recommended as this is an alarm call of danger)

cutting- long quick series of the above for clucking with different pitches

yelp- shirt, purt, chuck, cholk, keeyolk

kee kee run (for fall)- pee pee pee followed by a couple short yelps

this is how I do these calls, others may have other keywords...

hope it helps
