IN GENERAL, do mountain turkeys usually roost in the same trees (area)?

I hunt the mountains of WV, and we have turkeys in through there on occassion. Do mountain turkeys usually keep in the same area and roost in the same trees like turkeys in woodlots do? I realize they surely don't all the time, but AS A GENERAL RULE, do they move completely through an area an onto the next one or stick around and likely roost in the same tree from one night to the next, assuming there is no better food in one place than another and they weren't spooked?

In places I've been, I usually see moutain birds stay in a general area and usually, they'll have a 3 day pattern that they keep to. Usually they'll have 2 or 3 general spots that they roost in and they'll rotate the spots in a 3 day pattern. For instance, one spot I hunt, the birds roost on top of a ridge on one day, then won't be back to that spot for another day or two. The next day, they are usually roosted down in a long hollow about 400-500 yards down the moutain from where they roosted the day before on the ridge top. It usually takes me a couple days of scouting to figure out the pattern each year, but there does seem to be a pattern to it.

Thanks! That is exactly what I wanted to know. It seems that even if they aren't at the same place, they are somewhere not far away. I was thinking turkeys could easily be a few MILES away.

Most of the turkeys in my neck of the woods roost in the same area for four or five days, and then right when you think you have them figured out WRONG!! They roost on the opposite side of the hollow, or a completely different place. I guess that's why this spring hunting is so fun; it rarely is the same thing twice. As for the birds being miles away; that's sometimes the case in the fall, but they generally spend their time in the same small area in the spring.

Thanks. There aren't many turkeys where I hunt, but I sure can't wait just to be out there in the woods hunting again.

The turkeys I've hunted in mountain areas seem to roost in the same areas. I know in WV there's a few spots that year after year the turkeys seem to be roosting on the same flat. I'm sure food can make them change up along with hunters in the wood before the season scoutting.
