Sitting Still With Back Injury
#1
In 1977 and I was 17 years old I was crossing a street.
I am now 45 years old.
And a ( Dinosour ) 1977 Ford LTD Car hit me in the tail bone going @ + 60 miles an hour.
Well to make a long story short I can't sit still.
Because of my back.
And turkeys have eyes like a telescope.
How can I set up to get a turkey ?
Thank You

jrbsr..I feel your pain. I have 3 compressed vertebra in my lower back and sitting still is a challenge. There are a couple things that I have done to aid my success both deer and turkey hunting. For turkey hunting, I have 4 cushions and a HS Strut folding stool that I always carry with me. The way I have it set up is: 1. I have a 2" thick cushion that is attached to the top (shoulder area) of my turkey vest. 2. I leave the vest cushion in the up position for support for my lower back. It's also about 2" thick. 3. I have (2) 1" thick pads that I snap around my belt and hang down and are put between my butt and the web seat on the folding stool. This sounds like a lot of stuff to carry with you, but the way I have it all attached to my gear, I really am not bothered by it. All of the items mentioned are light weight too. The added comfort allows me to remain seated and helps me to be still, so it is well worth carrying. Another thing that I try to always do is get all my scratching, setup adjustments, etc done while I am certain the birds are still out of sight or better yet while I'm still out of sight. I have been busted several times because of an untimely itch from a skeeter bite or my legs, butt, or back going to sleep. Hope this helps.

As said a full cover blind allows you to move and move and move. I have two and do use them quite alot.
Fo low blinds or a portable run and gun situation.
Am like you and have back problems. What I made was a chair to help support my back. All it is a a steel framed beach chair. One that sits very low to the ground. It is about 3 inches off the ground. I then just sprayed it with camo paint. To this I add a ensolite camo boat cushion (streans) and I can sit for hours. I put this in a low rag blind as I prefer this more. To the boat cushion I have added an old gym bag strap betweent he handles. This allows me to sling it over my shoulder and off I go!

jrbsr,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune and it sounds like someone was watching over you to come thru that alive. I've cracked my tailbone twice and have trouble sitting for longer periods when turkey hunting. I've gotten good results from a chair I won at a NWTF turkey banquet and that small black chair that JW! has a picture of. The front legs are longer so it leans you back into the tree and has allowed me to sit longer as a result. Plus it has a sling that goes over the shoulder. Might be an option...
