Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

3" 12 ga. from the 870 with an extra full Turkey choke mfg by Rem. 47 paces is the longest bird and he was dead quickly. 2 3/4" from the sxs16. Hadn't figured I needed anything bigger yet. Maybe I'll try the 28 this year. LOL Better see if it's legal first.

Hey Gselkhunter- You shooting them Merriams? Let's try something. I believe we both have old 12 sxs Ithaca's. I'll take an Eastern in Ky, or at least try, and you get one of the Colorado birds with yours and we'll post pics of the two showing off the guns that are nearing 90 years old and what they can do. Mine is choked F/Fuller and I'll use some 2 3/4" hevi 5's. Then we could try the 28's.

I use a 10 ga. remington SP10 and a mossberg 835 12 ga. both work well, all depends on what I feel like hunting with on that day.the 10 ga. weights a ton but recoil isn't bad the 835 is light for runnin and gunnin but it kicks like a MULE!Both pattern well with the aftermarket chokes I installed.Bottom line is shoot what you are comfortable with, and spend the time to pattern your gun and know your and your gun's limitations

Hey rem1100,
Do you ever travel or pay to hunt turkeys? If so sometimes it's nice to be able to fill a tag on the last day of your hunt on a uncooperative gobbler. Not proud of it but 50+ yards has saved my $1000.00 trip on an occasion or two. Have 3 slams with longbeards from 15 states in the last 4 years. It's easy to be selective and challenged when hunting close to home but take your show on the road and invest your savings account every year on your journey and lets talk.

I've hunted with a 3 1/2" 12 ga for years and going to try a new BPS 10 ga this year, I like to call then in close and and make jelly out of their head, but if they don't cooperate I can still take one at 50+ yards, and sometimes if not most of the times those hang-ups are a little more challenging than one that comes running in on top of you. The more fire power I carry while turkey hunting the better I like it. I mean if it was just the challenge I was after I would grab my loin cloth and spear, but I kind of like that fried turkey breast also.

I'm with you STRUT. I like to kill'em close and watch'em bleed but I like to know when the turds are hitting the fan I can fill a tag in a pinch.

Wow.. not proud of pulling down on a $1000 bird at over 50 yrds...obviously the pressure of the last day, combined with what you just spent for that hunt, I understand the anxiety. I have never spent that much on any hunt,(could-just won't) but I can't see the relativeness between "how much $$ involved " and "having to kill to be sucessful", which is what I got from your post,Sir. One poster said he'd be taking a bird home a 50 yds... I reckon he might...maybe. But if he don't, it's the
bird who pays the price.....I'm not willing to risk that, myself.
