Default 12 gauge 3.5" or 10 gauge what do you perfer?

Which is better a 12 Gauge 3.5" or a 10 Gauge? I myself have a Browning Gold 10 Gauge, I owned a Beneli Nova 12 Gauge 3.5" but sold it to my father. I still have 3 other 12 gauge shotguns but none are 3.5". I do want to get another Browning Gold in the Hunter camo grass 12 gauge 3.5". But is it worth it? I mean for goose hunting is the 10 Gauge better in your opinion. I think it is, and when setting up in fields for geese I will always have my 10 with me. But when hunting ducks in the marsh or rivers, I feel that I don't need the 10 and do prefer the 12's but I would like to have the 3.5" capability for the long range duck or the occasional goose that passes by. I have not duck hunted much in the last 2 years but I will get into it strong again. Whats your opinion, Jason

If it was me I would get a 12 gauge 3.5". If you are out duck hunting with your friends and run out of shells you can bum some shells from them. If they only have 3.5" you are safe. But if you buy a 3" chamber you are up the creek with out a paddle. I love my Benelli SBE II. aslo not many people around here use a 10 gauge for duck hunting.

Idaho, I have the Moss 835 "Fly Way" 12ga-28" TrueGlo Adj. Titanium choke
I can shoot Gesse,Turkey,Ducks,Doves,Quail and Rabbits all with one gun.
All I have to do is pick the loads, 2 3/4", 3" or 3 1/2".

I also have the rifled barrel for Deer and Hog.

if you have 3 other 12s well then i would say stick with your 10. reason is that a 12 ga. 3.5 is good for the versitility like clays, rabbits, ducks and geese. the 10 has the same charge as the 12 3.5 (look in a cabelas catalog), except for one thing...the patterns are generally better simply because of the fact that the barrel is bigger so the shot has less resistance on its way down the barrel.

I use a Beretta Extrema 12ga. 3.5
I love it. I have two buddies that use the Benelli Super black eagles' and abrother that uses the Mossberg 835 ultimag, all in 12ga. My buddy has the Remington 10ga. and he complains everytime he pulls the trigger.

Sometimes, just sometimes. Too much is Too much!

You really can't compare a 10g to a 12g. The 10g is the original waterfowling gun. A 10g will outperform a 12g. A 10g for ducks is a little overkill, however, for geese it is right on. I have both and have hunted ducks and geese with both. I would not trade them for anything.

By the way....the 10 might have the same charge of shot as some of the 12g loads but it has more powder (which is what matters ) than the 12g loads.

Most of the 12ga 3.5" waterfowl loads have almost identical velocity and shot volume as the 10ga loads. Look at the Cabelas Waterfowl catalog and compaire the shot volume and velocity of the two. The 3.5" 12ga is as versital as you can get, with 3 shell lengths and many more load variations than the 10ga.

Thanks everyone. Having owned the Beneli Nova for 4 years I did like having the option of the 3.5" or going down to a 2-3/4". When it comes to recoil you just can't beat my Gold 10 its a kitty cat. I would take a pounding after shooting heavy 3.5" goose loads out of my Nova, but I can shoot the 10 Gauge all day long with no wories. I am just going to have to buy that Browning Gold 12 Gauge 3.5" It might not be a few years down the road but when my kids and family start hunting waterfowl I will be huge into it again. I used to waterfowl hunt every weekend, after bow elk season was over. Now being married with kids and after I take my normal 2 weeks off for elk hunting, I have too many things to do to hunt everyweekend. This last year I only got out duck hunting twice![:@][:'(] That will change!
