Any advice for hunting the real windy days?

My opening day was today and boy was it windy. Who knows if the turkeys could even hear the calls. Anyways, i only saw one turkey, a hen. And she only walked by at like 200 yards minding her business not even caring about my calls. Didnt hear or see a tom. Does anyone have any advice for windy day hunts?? Thanks

put the dekes deep into the ground! other than that hunt them just like any other day. Maybe use a box call for added volume but never underestimate their hearing it is insane how they can hear.

Find valleys where the fields are protected from the wind and calm. The birds will move to these fields on the windy days cuz no tom wants to sit out in a field gettin blown around like a tumble weed while he is tryin to strutt his stuff. If the birds are not in the fields or you don't have these fields hunt in the woods in ditches and valleys where you are protected from the wind also and look for open areas around there where a tom might come as a strutting area. Finding those calm little back areas and nooksare the key to finding held up birds on those terriblywindy days. WCL

One day last season was particularly windy and we kept right on hunting. We spotted a tom about 400 yards up wind of us out in an open farm field. My buddy did some yelps on his mystic box call, and through my bino's, I could see the tom gobble. So my buddy, not beleiving me, did some more ylps, and once again the tom resonded, BUT we could not hear him, even though we were down wind of him.
We got set up around the bend on the creek, and we called him in. I missed with my bow though!

hunt out of the way places protected from the wind. turkeys are real spooky with the wind blowing all around them moving branches and weeds. use a box call and try an aluminum pot call with a high frequency.

Yeah, if its real windy, its gonna be friction calls only. Like a box or slate type call. You may have to get loud on the calls too. It can help too, as said above, to get to out of the wind areas. Good luck!
